Hi,

I am new to these boards. My sister-in-law and I will be running our first half marathons in January. We are having difficulty deciding where to stay. Would like to stay at a deluxe hotel, and try to maximize sleep on morning of the race. Have gotten great quotes at the Contemporary, Poly, Swan, Boarwalk and Animal Kingdom and just not sure where to stay. We have a 5 day trip planned and will try to hit all parks throughout our stay.. Any advice on accomodations and tips for the weekend would be greatly appreciated!

Also, how is everyones training going? I seem to have hit a rut after my 4 mile run this weekend, and havent been able to get myself motivated to run this week.. Need some Motivation!!

Thanks so much,
Casey

If you are trying to get a bit more sleep on race morning, I would suggest one of the monorail resorts. All other resorts you must take a bus to the start. I like the Poly since you can walk over to TTC then just jump on the Epcot Monorail. Either way make sure you give yourself plenty of time. From the monorail you have to walk over to the Start Village Area then it is a pretty long walk from there out to the Start Corrals.

Just a word of caution - I can't say that I have ever slept well the night before a half marathon or longer race. And, at Disney, I am usually pretty keyed up anyway.

OTOH - being able to get back to your room after the race is a fairly important consideration, so any of the monorail resorts would be a good choice.

Good luck with your training, and if you have questions, just ask!

I'm staying at poly. How much time is enough?

I wouldn't sleep in too much later if I was staying at the Poly. Sometimes the monorails can get slow during heavy traffic times. I would stay at the resort nearest the park you plan to spend the most time at. If you plan to be at MK, stay at the Poly or CR. If you plan to be at Epcot, stay at the Swan or BW. If AK is more your pace, stay at AKL.

Personally I would be at the monorail no later than 4:00am if I were staying at a monorail resort juts like I wouldn't get to the buses later than 4:00am if I were staying at any other resort. No matter where you are staying and how you are getting there I'd use 4:00 as my time. Even if I were driving I would aim to be in my parking spot at 4:00am, not at the gate or leaving the hotel.

The year we stayed at the Poly we left the Resort at 4am. When we take the bus over we try to be on the first bus out at I believe 3am. I prefer to get there early then stress about not making it on time.

Do as I say and not as I do.....

When we stayed at the Poly in 2010 for the Goofy race, we boarded the monorail around 4:50am. Plenty of time! If I stay there again this January, I'll probably do the same, maybe a little earlier. However, Disney suggests you board by 4:00am. It is better to be safe than sorry.
