Questions on how reservation numbers work

I need some help understanding how reservation numbers work in certain circumstances. (I want to make sure I've programmed the way this works correctly in the MyDVC system I'm building.)

I've made the assumption that a single reservation number can only have one check in date and one check out date. Here are some examples:

Booking Mon, Tue, and Wed night. Mon & Wed are available, Tue goes on waiting list. Mon and Wed night will have different reservation numbers - correct?

Mon - Wed nights are booked. For some reason, Tue is cancelled. Wed must be given a new reservation number - correct?

Also, if several rooms are booked for the same dates, are all rooms under the same reservation number, each room has its own reservation number, or "it depends."

Thanks!

A reservation number is associated with only 1 type of villa.

If I had Monday night booked and later on, I decided to go on Sunday, MS would link the reservations together so I wouldn't have to move, but there would be 2 reservation numbers.

Yes, if you have a Monday to Thursday stay and you eliminate Tuesday night, Wednesday would need a new booking and reservation number.

If a middle date is cancelled from a multi day reservation, the later days will also be cancelled and will need to be rebooked. Yes, in the example, Wednesday would have a new reservation number - based on availability - since it will require a new check in.

Each villa will have it's own reservation number. They can be cross coded with notations requesting that they be near each other, but each villa will be a separate reservation and will be under different names.

Another situation that might come up is changing the dates on a reservation. For example, I booked a stay for a week in January and later moved the entire reservation up by one week. The reservation number stayed the same. I was surprised because I expected MS to have to cancel and rebook but they were able to modify it and keep the same reservation number.

If I had Monday night booked and later on, I decided to go on Sunday, MS would link the reservations together so I wouldn't have to move, but there would be 2 reservation numbers.
I'm surprised about this. When I book day by day, I start with a one-night reservation and each day I call and extend my stay by one more night. By the end I have a 6-night stay but one reservation number. Maybe things work differently when they add a night to the start of a reservation rather than the end?
