questions on DVC AP renewal

Jan of 2017 we bought the AP with the deal of 13 months for price of 12

so MAy 4 is the expiration date

lat yr we were lucky and we able to do 2 trips with the passes one in April (was supposed to be Jan but we both had the flu and had to reschedule) and Jan of this yr

I called to price out the renewal I thought the exp. date would change with renew passes but was told the exp date follows the pass so

if we would buy the renewal rate it would still exp May of 2019 which we would be able to use them of our trip in Jan 2019 but we would only get (probably) one trip

but if we would wait closer to Jan of 2019 then the passes would be good till Jan of 2020 and if we bump up the date for the 2nd trip we still could use the passes for the 2nd trip


however we would then lose the renewal discount

so my question is what makes the most sense

if I renew I believe the rate is around $550 PP but this would probably be for one trip

on the other hand I could wait and order new passes closer to when we go and by bumping up the 2nd trip by a little we could get 2 trips in but the rate then I believe was $650 around there

I just dont know which way to go

I’ve never renewed, but have had 4 AP’s.
It doesn’t make sense to renew if you have that many unused months before you can use your “renewal” pass.

In your example, you would need to buy a renewal in April 2018 (for your Jan 2019 trip) and then would need to buy a new AP for your Jan 2020 trip because your May 2019 renewal period would expire.

I would not get the renewal in your circumstance. I would buy at the later date and not worry about the discount for renewing.

How long are your trips? If you're only going for one 7 day trip on the renewal, that's not as cost effective as two 5 day trips, let alone two 7 day trips. Any renewal discount will be negated by unused days.
