Hello our family is shaking it up this spring school vacation and taking a trip to Williamsburg and I was hoping to find some help with suggestions on great places to eat and visit if we get any raining days. We do plan on going to Williamsburg of course but any other suggestions would be welcome...

Thanks to everyone for your help...

I can suggest a few good places to eat. In the Colonial area, on Duke of Gloucester Street, on the right if you're walking away from the W&M campus, is a place called The Cheese Shop. You should get sandwiches here. There isn't a lot of seating inside, if any, so you should find a nice spot outside. Get the house dressing on the side and give it a try.

The Trellis, also on Duke of Gloucester Street has been a fixture of good dining in Williamsburg, but is under new ownership and has been renovated. It should be opening again... today or so. It is now owned by the chef from The Blue Talon, another good restaurant.

You can also get sandwiches from one of the Delis in town. These are popular student hangouts at night. Paul's Deli (http://www.paulsdelirestaurant.com/) and College Delly (http://www.collegedelly.com/) have websites with menus if you want to take a look.

You can take a look around the College of William and Mary campus, but that is a lot of walking outdoors. Not so good if it's raining. It is adjacent to the restored area of Williamsburg.

If you want to look at some antebellum architecture, there are several plantations open for tours (not free), especially over in Charles City County. And, of course, there are the amusement parks, like Busch Gardens and Great Wolf Lodge.

Also, there are some dining options in the restored area run by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. There is a site here with descriptions. You generally need reservations: http://www.history.org/visit/diningExperience/

Im gonna second the Yankee Candle Store (there is so much there to do and see... way more than just candles) def good for a rainy day
Prime Outlets are awesome maybe not on a rainy day tho

We have a membership to a local science museum and we were able to visit the following for free!

Virginia Air and Space Center - My DS4 and DS6 favorite part of the trip.

Virginia Living Museum - Part zoo part museum with some hands on exhibits.

Nauticus - In Norfolk and includes a walking tour of the Battleship Wisconsin.

Not part of the membership but we also spent a day at Jamestown Settlement. It was was fun but a lot of it is outside (better for a nice day).

Thanks everyone...if anyone has any other suggustions that would be wonderful too can never have too many options

thanks

Ha! This is almost EXACTLY the advice I would have given (did you go to W&M by any chance?).

Definitely go to the Cheese Shop and Paul's (my preference of the delis for food).

Williamsburg has so many great, local places - avoid the chain restaurants if you can!

I would agree that the Yankee Candle would be a great rainy day place, for a place to eat if you like BBQ we always go to Pierce's BBQ,its is on a side road that runs next to Rt64 I think it is on the same raod as The Great Wolf Lodge.

It has been a few years since I've been down (and am actually going on family vaca there this summer...so this is good reading), but near the Kmart (in the vicinity of downtown Williamsburg) there used to be a really good Mongolian Grill....Hope it is still there.

Peking is still there! My kids have had several family birthday meals here.

The above info and suggestions are exactly what I was going to recommend. My only warning is the traffic to get from Williamsburg to Norfolk or Va Beach can be horrible on a good day.

Pierce's BBQ is a must! The prices are decent and the food is great. It's on the same road as Great Wolf Lodge. There are actually blue road signs for it as well.
