So I thought I had read somewhere that you can't use your points anywhere in the Disney Collection outside of Disney in 4 months prior to your anniversary date. Is this true?? If not does anyone know what I may have read if I misunderstood?

Also I was speaking with a DVC castmemeber and they asked me if I would be a member from day 1 buying a resale. What does that mean??

If I remember correctly you can not book travel with in 4 months of your UY. But you can book 5 months or more out and travel with in 4 months of your UY. The last question I would assume that the CM was referring to the new resale rules. Those buying resale after, after March 20th, will be loosing the ability to do some trades with in the DVC system- concierge, Disney, and 1 other . Again I hope others pipe in and correct me and expand on what i am saying.

Sorry about the crappy answer...good luck

I would also think it was a reference to the new restrictions on the resale market, but I have to ask....why didn't you ask the cast member what this meant????

After all, we can only speculate!

We did ask and she didn't clearly answer the question, she wasn't happy about us thinking of purchasing resale.

as stated, you can travel in the last 4 months of your "use year" but you have to book it beforehand.

DVC has to take the pts you trade (for staying at the GF for example) and rent that stay through CRO for cash to pay the hotel division. so you can't just do that at the last minute.

if you don't submit a resale to DVC for ROFR (to see if they want to buy the contract at the agreed upon price and take it away from you) by 3/20/2011, this question is moot as you will not be able to trade out for cruises or disney hotels anyway. these trades are typically not a very good deal, though, so i wouldn't worry about it...

you can use DVC pts to book and stay at DVC resorts (including hilton head and vero beach) in the last 4 months of your UY. (but DVC works better if you plan farther ahead.)

it can take a couple of months to close a resale and get into the DVC system. resale does take longer. but you can save a great deal of money. up to you.

There is an exception to the rule of 4 and that is the Disneyland resorts. Those do not have the 4 months restriction. I'll also repeat about the fact that it doesn't apply to any of the DVC resorts which are by far the best use of your points.

Like Charles - my best guess on the day 1 comment by the CM is that it takes a few weeks to close on a resale. It sounds like the CM was throwing out the best arguments they had to keep you from not being a sale for them.

I think you both are right. When you buy direct, you are instantly a DVC member and can begin using your membership right away--many have booked trips within 24 hours of agreeing to purchase.

With resale, you are not a member for close to 6 - 8 weeks, from offer to when you can actually make a reservation. I think the CM was trying to say that direct is a much faster route to being a DVC member--of course, its also a much more expensive route!!!
