Hello All,
I'm brand new to this board and thinking about purchasing at DVC. I've read all of your great posts about pros and cons of the different resorts and now we're trying to decide between SSR through Disney or a OKW or BWV resale. Our DD's are still very young, and I think as they grow they'll appreciate the closeness of BWV to where the action is, but I think DH and I would like OKW better. The incentives for SSR seem good, but we're from new england so I don't think we'd appreciate the theming there as some might.

My questions are these:

1.) why does there seem to be so many more OKW resales available than BWV resales.

2.) IYO, what is the best resort for young children.

3.) what would be the benefit of purchasing through Disney rather than at resale.

Thanks for your help. You all seem like great people. Hope to see you at Disney sometime soon!

Keep in mind that no matter where you purchase, you can stay at any of the DVC resorts using your points. The only caveat is that you can only reserve at non-home resorts at 7-months out. That can be a problem for very popular timeframes but is not really an issue for most times.

Don't forget that at SSR your contract goes to Jan 31, 2054 while an OKW or BWV resale will expire on Jan 31, 2042.

1.) why does there seem to be so many more OKW resales available than BWV resales.
OKW is by far the largest resort and so naturally will have more member owners than BWV. So if the same percentages of owners were selling, you'd have more OKW. Also, BWV is very popular due to it's location. Many people have their names on waitlists with resellers for BWV resales, so they may sell without ever being listed.

2.) IYO, what is the best resort for young children.
(Our 'kids' are in their 30's now, so I'll let someone else answer that one.) :teeth: I'll mention though that many like VWL because it has easy boat transportation directly to MK

3.) what would be the benefit of purchasing through Disney rather than at resale.
You can finance directly through Disney if you want. Also you'll be able to use your points right away.

Through resale you must pay in cash which means finding your own financing, and you cannot use your points until after you close which will take awhile as the contract goes through ROFR and then closing.

OKW is a MUCH bigger resort. So it just seems like it.

I think they are all good in their own way. All have pools and some sort of play area. Remember you have to keep your sanity also. When you step away from the parks, you may want to get them out of the mainstream of constant stimulation ;) While we prefer OKW, BWV (the boardwalk and walking distance to 2 parks) or SSR (Down Town Disney) would most likely be the best as the children start to grow up into teenagers, etc. as there is more to do. The teen years are probably more difficult activity wise than the youger years.

Going through Disney is quick and effortless. Resale takes a little more time and patience.

It sounds like your family is on the young side. The extra years that SSR would give you may be the way to go. While SSR is New Englandy, it is an excellent resort. We are from New England and stayed at SSR a few weeks ago. We enjoyed it. I would not hesitate to go back. (I'm trying to convice DW to go back in November ;)

Let me see if I can offer another perspective

Caskbill hit it right on the head. OKW is a BIG resort compared to Beach Club or Boardwalk. I've noticed there much more SSR contracts for resale recently as well. More than BCV and BWV resales combined.

To me, the two best resorts for young children are VWL and BCV. VWL because of its proximity to MK & CR/Chief Michey's :teeth: and BCV because of SAB. The pool complex at BC is an attraction all by itself.

Good luck on your decision. BTW, if you love visiting WDW on a regular basis, you will not regret purchasing DVC IMO. We joined last year and made our first trip in early May. Being able to stay in a 2 bdrm villa with two small children was a luxury that we'd not have considered in the past.

IMO, it will be easier to get SSR or OKW at 7 months than BWV (especially if you wasnt standard or BW views). However, SSR goes 12 years longer. That might be nice for your kids. I think the kids will love anywhere at WDW. You can pool hop to al pools but SAB and AKL, for the most part. OKW and SSR might be ince for giving the kids some unwinding time away from the action, while still having theme pools and such.
