questions for dvc owners

We have considered purchasing off and on for a couple years now. We are now planning our trip for June 2010, thinking about renting dvc points for the trip.
We were thinking if we purchased we could use our points for the 2010 trip. We would purchase the minimum 160. I thought I read somewhere that we would get 2008 and 2009 points it that correct? Would we be able to use 2008,2009 and 2010?
Also when is the latest date you would recommend purchasing to still be able to do this plan. Would it be difficult to get ressie for 1st week of June last minute. I ask because I would rather purchase a few months from now rather that right now.
We haven't taken a tour yet, we plan to find one in IL.
Also at one point I thought I saw that if you went to disney took the tour and decided to purchase they gave you some kind of credit toward your current stay. Anyone know about this? Thanks for your patience with my questions. Shelly

I am not sure you will find a DVC tour in IL.
If you buy now or in a few months yes you can use the points for the 2010 vacation you are planning.

I think you will only get 2009 points if you purchase now. They MIGHT still offer them for AKV & SSR, but I know they don't for BLT.

If you want to use points for June 2010, purchase soon to be able to take advantage of 11 month booking at your home resort (right now you can book stays for arrival on June 26th.) Obviously you will still have an advantage for the next several months over those who have different home resorts.

Go see the models at the Doorway to Dreams store at Woodfield and talk to a guide. There are some very nice incentives right now.

As for your last question, as far as I know, that doesn't happen anymore. But often the incentives will offset the cost of a trip.

There are no 2008 points for BLT, only 2009. If you purchase one of the other resorts, the only way to get 2008 points (and it is not a guarantee) is to purchase with an UY that has not yet started in 2009 (ie: Aug, Sept, Oct, or Dec).

I know that I have read that the only UY's getting 2008 points for AKV are Oct and possibly still Dec.

If you buy in a few months, how are you paying? Are you doing cash or financing? Disney will work with you to delay the payments a bit if you need that (I believe they can delay for 60 days). I also used my Disney Visa and got 6 months, 0% interest on the purchase. Technically, they advertise that it is the first $2500, but I am getting it on the entire amount of my add on.
