We're leaving in less than a week and now I'm starting to panic. Have any of you taken Dramamine or Dramamine II while bfing? I have really bad motion sickness and have always taken Dramamine II or a half pill of Dramamine when visiting WDW in the past. Even the busses to and from the parks make me a little queasy. I've looked online and it appears that even though there haven't been many studies done both appear to be pretty safe. However, my big concern is that they'll dry up my milk supply. Anyone used either and had milk supply problems?

My 2 mos old is ebf and I would hate to dry up at WDW.

Best thing to do is call your local hospital and talk to the lactation consultant and they will be able to let you know whats safe:)

I did this last year when I had to take an unexpected trip to England, I take Xanax when I fly and was still nursing my son at the time. They talked me though the whole thing and let me know what was OK.

Good luck and have fun!

I'd ask your doctor- which one was always the big question- I had a bad cold while I was nursing last winter and I was never sure if I should call the pediactrician, my OBGYN, or my primary care doctor. I agree with the PP to contact a lactation consultant for a professional opinion. Maybe they'll recommend that supplement that help increases your supply if you're concerned, I can't remember what it's called it it's something like fennelgreek??? BUT I'm also no doc, no nurse, no lactation consultant, just another breastfeeding mom at WDW:hug:

Another resource is to check out kellymom.com. Drugs are rated on a safety scale of L1-L5, L1 being the safest. You may have to look up the actual drug name, not dramamine. It'll be listed in the drug facts on the back of the box. And yes, fenugreek can help with supply issues, BUT nursing as much as possible is the most surefire way. I don't know anything about whether the dramamine would "dry you up" at all. I know some antihistamines/decongestants will. GL!

The supplement is fenugreek that the above poster mentioned. Warning if you take it it will make any and all bodily fluids smell kind of like a strange maple syrup. Sweat, urine etc..... It is tolerable you just might want to know in advance. I am not sure it will even be needed. The answer to who do you ask is A Lactation Consultant. Not your OB etc.... Reason, unfortunately the docs do not always know. There is a book that is the equivalent to the bible for breastfeeding by Thomas Hale. Ever LC should have a copy and can look up your medication and make recommendations for you. We have seen way too many doctors tell patients not to breastfeed because of a medication when it was totally safe. If you cannot reach a lacation consultant where you live PM me and I will get the info for you. Have a great trip and congratulations on your baby and your successful breastfeeding.:cool1:  :cool1:

Checked on that already. Dramamine is a L2, while Dramamine II is a L3. It looks to me that the reason the D II is a L3 because there has only been 1 study done in 1974 about the effects on babies. There's not much more info. on Dramamine I but it has been a LITTLE more studied. Both have had a handfull of studies.

Maybe I'll just use ginger pills. I didn't have much luck last time I tried them but maybe I need to up the dosage. :confused3

I'd, personally, feel fine with an L2. I think fenugreek is even listed as an L3 and people take it to increase their supply! Keep on top of the water and have a great time! :thumbsup2
