Questions about Wild Africa Trek

We are thinking about this tour for three of us in early November. How soon does this tour sell out? Am I safe 30 days? 2 weeks out? Also any idea the cost of it in early November, I'm guessing no discount for that time period?

Usually a discount for AP, DVC and CMs after 11:30 am.

We did the 12:30, on a hot day in May this year. It was GREAT. I booked 2 weeks out. I highly recommend it.

Some of the time slots and days sell out early, so you might want to make reservations as soon as you can if there's a particular time/date you want.

There may be certain times that are sold-out (the groups are small), but we've never encountered an entire day sold-out.

We have booked only one day to several months in advance and never had an issue getting the approx times we want.

Matter of fact, they were actively taking walkups last Nov while we were leaving our trek.

The afternoon discount goes away during the cooler seasons, so no $50 discount in Nov.

$189 + tax pp

great thank you!!

I am considering booking the Wild Africa Trek for our October trip. Disney is offering $50 off for afternoon tours. I would love to hear from anyone who has done this tour. If the afternoon tour good as far as seeing animals during the hotter part of the day? Is it worth the cost? Also hoping that someone has booked and paid for this with the Barclay Arrival card so I can see if their points will cover this type of charge. Thanks!

If you can do this, I would vote that you do it. This is a wonderful experience, and one you will always remember.

I never received any kind of email confirmation for our WAT. Should I be concerned? Also, I was told to check in at Tusker House, is that no longer the case?

We got a confirmation about a week before, which I posted on page 1. Unless your time is before park opening, you meet at the safari entrance, there is a sign for the meeting area. The meeting area has registration, lockers and the vest fitting (including weigh in).

Hmmm...check in used to to be located behind Tusker House. However, unless they recently moved it back there, the current check in location has been right next to Kilimanjaro Safari.

Email check in instructions last fall:

Check In – The Wild Africa Trek is located in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom next to the Kilimanjaro Safaris Entrance.

A. For Guests attending the trek prior to park opening (typically the 8:00 and 8:45 AMdepartures), a Wild Africa Trek Guide will meet your party at the Main Entrance of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Kindly arrive 30 minutes prior to your departure time.

B. For Guests attending the trek after park opening, please check-in at the Wild Africa Trek Entrance. Kindly arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your departure time.

C. Late arrivals will be unable to join a trek in progress but will be accommodated on the next available trek (space permitting).

Hubs and I did this last summer around lunch time--it was blazing hot, but like some others have said, there is plenty of shade and you stop several times while walking to take pictures and hear what the guides have to say. We are going back next summer and will take the kids this time. I think they will love it! Seeing the animals up close, and by up close I mean 10-15 feet for the hippos and the crocs during the walk, was so cool! Our only complaint was that the water bottle they give you did not keep water cold and there was no ice available. We bought those lanyard connector things that allowed us to attach our cell phones to the lanyard so it was always handy for pictures. I did not take my camera because the guides take tons of pictures and the quality is amazing. There is only one spot to use the bathroom during the trek and that is at the Boma when you stop for your lunch or snack. It's not a ton of food, so if you think you may get hungry, eat something substantial before you go on this excursion. We stayed at the Boma for a good while and watched the giraffe family the entire time. I believe there were two baby giraffes back then. I would be glad to share some pictures taken by the guides if anyone is interested! We are 325 days out as of today, and I can't stop planning! Can't wait to do this again next July!

I did not have the same experience. :rotfl2:which is no surprise.

We have a WAT reservation for September 1st. When reserving i was told by CM that there would be no email confirmation
nor would there be a reservation number on my MDE.

Indeed the only confirmation i would have is the confirmation number she gave me

I was instructed to go to front gate the mirning if ressie for the first morning trek and tell CM my name and tell them we had a WAT reservation.

I wasn't concerned about this info since I'd read other DISers had the same CM experience.

I would love to know how Disney is able to train CMs to never ever have uniform information about any aspect of Disney. :scratchin

It's a wonderous feat that every CM has a different answer to every Disney guests question. :rotfl2:
