i just got vmk pal a few days ago. I have 2 questions for anyone that uses it:

1. I saw that it is not made my vmk or affiliated with vmk. I thought it was at first, and I saved 4 characters with passwords. Once my fiance told me it was not a part of vmk, I deleted the passwords and left my logins only. Do you guys think this is bad? to have the login info and/or passwords? Since it's not put out by vmk, whoever made it could use our logins! That's the main thing I wonder.

2. I have clicked on the calendar. When it first comes up (not the setting page, the main one) all it says is "This is a list of upcoming VMK events" at the top, and "updated 12.30/1899 5:00:00" (notice the year). The page part is blank white: no dates, no events, no TIME. I did set the times to be local and all, but there has not ever been a list of events, OR a clock that I can see! How can I tell what time it is on vmk besides switching to the desktop? Please help!

Ok that's it! Answers and any other vmk pal insight is appreciated :)

Thanks,

~Me.a~

For 1. I've got aol security (yes! Don't go haking me!), and I get a notice when a IP is blocked. I have my ways of finding otu who it is, and I never get VMK Pal or anything like that, usually dell or the former SBC. So go ahead, nothing will really happen

for 2. There should be a clock at teh bottom left hand corner of your vmk pal screen, and teh 1899 thing is probably a bug or it might mean that Mr. Carioa might be updating teh calender.

So you are saying that my login info cannot be stolen? And I thought I looked EVERYWHERE for a clock, but I'll check again: bottom left corner.

Thanks!

No, if some really hard hacker tries to hack your computer and open all your files, you're still not safe. But usually, a haker like that does not know about VMK, so yes, you are safe.

The way VMKPal works with the passwords is that its stored on your local hardrive, so I guess for that reason the only way they could get your password was if, like Someybody said, a hacker hacked your machine and took the info off. Now, if you have any relitaves that play VMK on the same computer, and you save your password....that might be a problem :)

When I first got VMKPal I had that weird glitch too (with the clock). Just give it some time and it'll work...eventually :)

I for one would like the programmer of this program to come on here and tell us how the passwords are stored.

When you use windows to save your passwords, they are stored in an encrypted file. I would never, ever, ver (again?) ever, save my password in any type of password management program. For anything. Ever. unless this program is using Windows to store your passwords, you are wide open to what are commonly referred to as PWS - password stealers. A PWS can be anything, a website, an excel file, word document. since all VMK Pal really is is a macro, it is about as simple to hack as creating an Access database.

For the record, I have not now, or ever, downloaded Pal, nor will I ever

Thanks all. I decided to keep my logins saved and just put the pw's in each time. Also, I still can't see a time. I do know that the X at the top right to close the program is off the screen, I can only see a "dot" of it, and can click it but I didn't even know it was there at first (I was minimizing and closing by right click on the tab on taskbar, wondering why they made it so hard to close). I see no clock, unless its way off the left side of my screen!

If you can REALLY get banned for using it, I'm not going to. I dont see why they would bother, though. Even if it's a scripting program, its not used to do anything "bad" on vmk. Banning everyone who uses it would

1. take a lot of time
2. get rid of a bunch of players...players are like customers, and businesses do not want to lose customers. VMK is free you say? Yes...but how much money does Disney make, just bc of vmk? I know I and my fiance have taken 2 trips to the MK solely to get vmk stuff (that is 2 tickets plus all money spent on stuff to get vmk cards...hats, pictures, candy...and the normal money spent on food and souvenirs). I bought a pic on Buzz Lightyear, which I never would have. so yeah, they make money from having so many players.

You CAN'T get banned for using VMK Pal. They'd have to be able to see what programs you're using, and that's illegal, isn't it? Anyways, Pal doesn't send your passwords anywhere, and in the program is specifically claims it saves them in an encrypted file or something.

You CAN get banned for it if you use the code saving/shortkeys feature. But really, when they ban people for using shortkeys, they are just guessing anyway. I am just relaying what YAVN HAS STATED IN THE PAST - although he says alot of things, many of which he can not really back up in the proper way. He has banned more legitimate players than he has "cheaters" I am sure.

However, if he truly does want to ban people for using these scripters, then he has to look no further than this board and just take note of all the people who post their VMK names and then say "I use PAL" or "I use shortkeys"

and as to whether it is illegal to see what programs are on your machine. No, it is not. Not one bit. and the cookie that polls your machine to check for specific programs is incredibly easy to create. How do you think they know what version of Shockwave you have? Do you have any idea how easy it would be to put a line in THAT cookie to see if you have VMKPal installed? Would take a programmer all of .08 seconds to write that line, and then poof, you try to logon to VMK and you get an automatic 10 year ban.
Again, I am not saying that they WOULD, I am saying that, after Yavn has come out and said that VMK Pal falls under the scripting rules he put into the VMK values, that he COULD do it. Easily.

:ZOMG This is the cooliest sig ever. Thankies mods!

I have seen "ZOMG" a couple of other times. I know that OMG means Oh My God...what is the "Z" for? someone please help me, this is as almost as confusing as why people say "Woot" ("We Owned Other Team") to mean "whoo-hoo!" (Which is almost as annoying as saying "owned" or "Powned"! "powned" = WHAT????")

Thanks :)

LOL, ty. THat's a new one on me. Do you say "zoh" in real life? Like Homer saying "Doh"?

He he, I actually say things like "LOL", "BRB" and "OMG" (the letters) in real life to annoy my husband. It all started when I started vmk....and dis....but I never say "ROFL" even online bc...well, it's a lie. I would like to meet anyone who can roll on the floor, laugh, and type all at the same time.

HEY! That is gonna be my new tag!!!!

He's your husband now?? Ok, I'm not up to date.

YES, I forgot to post it, but we got married on my birthday/our 2 year dating anniversary! So now we only have to remember ONE date for all 3 things!

I added it to my signature too....

Congrats Mikoda!

ZOMFG, what's booed?

I got 3 pm's like this in my inbox:

poohhalloween.gif

You have been BOOed by Mickey's Halloween Helpers. To show others that you have been BOOed, add this BOO jumping pumpkin:
icon_mickey_halloween.gif
into your signature .

Then, spread the fun by sending out this pm to two or more DISers who have yet to be BOOed. If they have the jumping pumpkin in their siggy, they have already been BOOd.

***This is just a fun way to spread the fun within the DIS community.

If you are unsure how to insert the orange jumping mickey, ask the person who BOOed you.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Now, MillionaireFreak, I have to ask you: In "ZOMFG", what does the "F" stand for??? :confused3
