Questions about Uber from LAX

Can somebody walk me through the process of getting an Uber from LAX? I've never used Uber before and I'm a little intimidated, especially having to also navigate LAX! From the baggage claim, is it easy to find the upper level where Uber picks up?

I would also like to know about this. While I travel a lot, I usually use public transportation. Tips for Uber would be great.

Navigating LAX is easy as a traveler FWIW.

I've seen the escalators going up once I'm outside on the lower level (always wondered why they were there) but I assume they have them inside as well.

The issue usually isn't finding the upper level - like most major airports, LAX has two levels, with plenty of escalators between them. The issue is that Uber (and Lyft) pick up only at certain designated points, and officially want you to request a pick-up only once you're at one of those points, A through F. (But note that Uber has an off-airport staging area, so it typically takes 10 minutes for your car to arrive; the bold therefore make the request before arriving at a pick-up point.)

My recommendation with LAX is to make the request as soon as you get your luggage and begin walking to your pickup zone. Make sure you know which zone you need before you make the request. The app will have the map available when you open it as it knows your in LAX. The zones are very well marked once you are upstairs and outside.

We called ours after we got our luggage. Uber told us what our pickup station was I think. We had to ask LAX personnel to find our staging area- that map above is handy! I had no idea LAX used staging areas but it is a massive airport. If you get lost just ask airport personnel. And remember, it's not the end of the world if you get to your staging area 10 mins before your car. We did. Do check the license plate when you think you see your car. We walked up to a Black Nissan Altima & the driver didn't look quite right & I noticed this other Black Nissan Altima whose driver was starting to yell & wave his arms... I had walked up to the wrong car! If I'd checked the license plate I would have avoided that. Uber will give you a driver pic, car color, make, model & license plate. Also, check for a promo code! Often there at codes for $20 off your first ride :) We loved Ubering to DL!

Thank you for all the replies! So if we are flying on Southwest, which is in terminal 1, we would most likely go to pickup A?

One more silly question. There will be three of us...Does one person sit in front with the driver or do we all three ride in the backseat like a taxi? What's the etiquette?!?

It's fine in my experience. Personally I'd just ask the driver if it was fine if you sat up front just to clear any awkwardness you might feel (I 100% expect them to say "sure!") It's at least 45 mins to DLR. No need for 3 people to cram into the backseat of a Prius for that long ;)
Edit: there aren't silly questions when it comes to Uber! It's a whole new way to travel so ask away!

Usually no issues with sitting in the front...you are not expected to all cram in the back...but I would just communicate with driver as they can often have some crap in the front seat so just out of courtesy when traveling with a party I simply ask "ok to sit up front?"

I sit in the front more than I sit in the back!

I always sat in the front with my son in the back. No problem.
