Hi all! :goodvibes

I'm new here, and I have found this to be a great place with lots of information! I'm finally researching for my future trip to WDW in November, and I still haven't decided on the hotel. I'm liking the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, as the pictures look great and the reviews too, but I was just wondering, do all rooms have that green and floral decoration and that floral wallpaper in the bathroom? I'm just asking because the hotel grounds look so breathtaking and beautiful, and to be honest, I find that room decoration a little weird and outdated. It doesn't appear to go too well with the rest of the hotel. Not that there's something really wrong with it, it's just that I'm a very visual person, and the room specifically just kind of made an impression with me, especially when compared with the rest of the resort. I've read somewhere that the hotel is starting to show its age. Is this true? Since I've never been to the hotel, I can't really tell what's true and what's not. So, how does the hotel REALLY look, up close and personal?

I also read that it is very closely located to Downtown Disney, but some other review stated that it was located in a dangerous, unsafe zone. So I'm a little confused. How close is the resort to the parks (both Disney and Seaworld and Universal)? And what other places/amenities are close by (restaurants, malls, etc.)?

Anyway, I would just like to know your overall impressions on the hotel. Your input will be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

We like the Hyatt Grand Cypress, it's a beautiful resort. DH is a member of their frequent stay club, so we get to stay on the Concierge level for standard rates (unless we're cashing in Hyatt points :teeth:). Not sure what some might mean by unsafe?, but you really will need a car if you stay there. I wouldn't want to try to walk to Crossroad, even though it looks close on the map...but it's the multi-laned highway one would have to cross to get there that is scary. Their guest services is top-notch. Some aren't too fond of the fact that it is a convention/business hotel, but the stuff that's included with the resort fee...Executive Golf, surrey bikes, bikes, sailboats, walking trails, health club, etc., etc...wow! They have a shuttle buses that go to WDW & Uni - I don't know if they cost extra or not. There's even some 18-hole golf courses(including a Nicklaus designed one) and an equestrian center if you want to pay additional fees.
You might want to check out TripAdvisor for reviews.

good luck,
agnes!

We are huge fans of the Hyatt Grand Cypress. The rooms still are decorated with the green wallpaper and the floral bathroom paper. However I do not find it offensive just a little outdated. The remodelling of the hotel is scheduled to begin next summer. As for the rooms they are all clean and nice with the Hyatt beds and pillows which are super comfortable. As for the grounds and the common areas of the hotel they are beautiful. There is so much to do at the hotel often times we do not bother to go to the parks.
The hotel property actuallly borders Disney property in some parts. If you have a pool view room you will be able to see the fireworks at night. If you are exiting Downtown Disney and the Crossroads shopping center is directly across from you then you would take a left onto 535 and then take your first left again. Then your first left again onto Grand Cypress Blvd and onto the property. I cannot imagine anyone saying it is in an unsafe zone. We have been going there for over ten years and never heard of a problem. Universal is about a fifteen minute ride and Sea World about 7-10 minutes. There are lots of restaurants out on 535 close by. Just avoid Giordano's (food not very good and other posters have had lots of poblems there.)
Close by restaurants include the Orlando Ale House, Macaroni Grill, Steak and Shake, McDonalds, Pizzeria Uno, Perkins, and Olive Garden. We will not stay anywhere else and we go there at least 4x per year. The pool is wonderful, there is biking, non-motorized water sports, 9 kole pitch and putt, tennis, basketball, raquetball, driving range etc all included in the resort fee plus transportation to the parks.

we stayed at the villas of grand cypress, which is part of the resort, but across the main road (in the middle of one of the hyatt golf courses)..
it's over where the hyatt riding stables are...

the villas are beautiful and very secluded....there are small quiet pools there but you can also use the main pool at the hyatt if you're so inclined..

to get to disney from the villas, we just drove out of the villas property - turned right and immediately turned left into the unmarked 'backdoor' entrance of WDW....(you have to have a car or use hotel transportation, it's too far on foot)...

Thanks all for your replies. I will definitely be renting a car as I would like to have the option to explore Orlando, not just the parks. I did some research online and I think I'll definitely reserve a room there. It just looks like a really beautiful resort and the pool looks incredible. And if it is close to Downtown Disney and other restaurants, even better! The room decoration I don't find offensive, just a little outdated. I'm not into green and wicker so much, so maybe that's it. But they do look very comfortable.

disneyholic family, do you know if is it too much of a price difference to stay at the villas? And, if I stay in one of them, will I still have the extras and ammenities included with the resort fee at the main hotel, like watersports, bikes, etc.? Is it the same resort fee? Do you check in at the main hotel, or is it considered a different hotel, even though the villas are part of the resort?

We have also stayed at the Villas and they are fabulous !! I preferred the Villas over the Hyatt. In response to your questions...yes..the resort fee covers use of the Hyatt resort amenities as well as free shuttles to the parks and to the Hyatt. You call, they come. Sometimes you can get a great price on the Villas. We had a one bedroom which was HUGE. But their Club Suite is also very very large and could easily handle a large family. I loved having a washer/dryer and full kitchen. Check out grandcypress.com which is the site for the Villas and follow link to accommodations.:thumbsup2

WOW! I just priced the Villas at Grand Cypress for 4 nights in February and they wanted $830 a night plus tax!
Think we'll be sleeping somewhere else then.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: $830 :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I was looking in February and saw around $400 for Club Suite....which is too steep for me even though I love the Villas:love: . I wouldn't even pay that for a night at the best WDW resort.

Do the rooms at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress have refrigerators or are they available to rent? My husband wants to stay here in November, but we are still deciding. Thanks in advance for your help!

I think I read somewhere that they have refrigerators available for rent. Don't know how much they charge, though.
