Questions about taxis while staying on site

I know the bus service works great most of the time but there are times that we think we may prefer a taxi:
1. Getting to an 8:00 ADR from POR to Grand Floridian.
2. Getting back to POR after the Pirates & Pals Voyage at the Contemporary. It seems like it would be a hassle to get a bus to one of the parks and then a bus to POR when we could taxi it directly from one resort to the other.
3. We heard from others that on the day you depart, they send you to the airport much earlier then you need to be there with the Disney transportation. We thought we could just take a taxi to the airport so we can have some extra time at MK.

Now, for the questions:
1. Do you use the taxi service often?
2. When you do, are they reasonably priced?
3. Are they readily available?

Any other information you can give me on the taxi situation would be great. As much as it seems silly paying OOP for transportation, if it makes things more convenient for us and just makes more sense, we don't mind paying OOP on a few occasions.

We have used taxis to get around property pretty often. We have paid about $20-25 each time, but of course it depends. I have never waited long for a taxi. I usually just go out to the transportation desks out front of the resorts and say I need a taxi and one arrives pretty quickly, in my experience.

As for ME, it picks you up at the resort generally 3 hours before your departure time.

From WDW to the Airport is roughly $90 via a cab. I wanted to say last I checked it was in the $70-80 flat rate + tip. I did it about 3 years ago when surprising my parents with a visit.

For number 2, just walk from the CR to the MK bus stop for POR. EASY.

But a cab would be quicker still.

I keep Mears taxi programmed in my phone as we usually use a town car service back and forth to MCO with a few cab rides mixed in while on property as it is cheaper than renting a larger car/van(Holiday season) and much more relaxing. 407-699-9999. Haven't had any fare over $20 on property but haven't traveled to or from AK/AKL by cab and we don't do DTD. Most frequent use is if we're in the EP WS at the end of the day we walk out the international gateway and catch a cab from the Beach Club.

1. GF breakfast- take a cab
2. Walking from the Contemporary to the MK bus stops is quick. Line may not be though. Being back at POR in ~10mins would be very nice at that time of night
3. Town car service is likely cheaper to the airport. We check our bags through to the airline with Disney in the morning and have a town car pick us up from where ever we are that day. Boarding bags go in a locker until we leave the park. If you're at MK you're going to have to go over to GF or CR to meet them. EP we have them pick us up from the BC.

Piggybacking onto this thread - is there any kind of sticky or good source of information on using a taxi at WDW for a Hick from the Sticks for whom this would be an entirely new experience? Is it best just to ask the resort concierge to get you a cab? And dumb question: if you call ahead or ask the concierge to, when you go outside how do you identify YOUR cab? (The one called for you/expecting you?)

1. you can take a cab if you want. If you decide to take the bus, you should be at the stop by 6:45
2. The easiest thing is to walk to MK from the contemporary and take the bus from there.
3. A cab will save you 30 minutes and run $65+. Not worth it in my opinion.

1. No.
2. Orlando has some of the highest taxi rates in the country. You can check the rates at taxifarefinder.com
3. Yes.

You don't need a concierge and you don't need to pre-schedule. Taxis are plentiful at Disney resorts. If you don't see one when you walk out to the porte cochere (main drive-up entrance to the resort), ask any bell services cast member you see hanging around. They'll happily summon a taxi for you; taxis are often waiting nearby but out of sight. It is customary to give a tip of a dollar or so for the person who got you the taxi. At parks and Downtown Disney, MANY taxis will be lined up hungrily awaiting their next fare.

In a mega-huge tourist area such as Walt Disney World, it is never necessary to reserve or pre-arrange a taxi.
