Wanting to stay at the Poly, have questions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know we just got back, but we are already planning our next trip. We really want to stay at the Polynesian for many reasons. One being that my husband stayed there with his family when he was a kid. The other that it is a monorail resort and close to MK where we like to spend most of our time. Another, is that I love the idea of the theming that the Poly has to offer with the tropical setting, beach, etc... We have stayed at the WL in the past, and just recently at the ASMu. We love the WL and the boat access to MK and the lodge atmoshphere. ASMU was fine, it was what we expected for the $, and being a last minute trip, but it took so long to get anywhere and we were waiting a long time for busses especially at Epcot to get back. We were also in the farthest room from the bus stop and the food court, hard when you have small kids.

Anyway my questions are: Have you stayed at the Poly before?

Anything we should know about it?

Anyplace we should request to stay when we are there?

We haven't picked a time of the year yet, any ideas on best times?

Does anyone know if there is a time where the rates are lower there? or is it pretty much the same all the time?

I have read you can see Wishes from the beach at the poly, are there any rooms that have a view of that?

There will be 4 of us , 2 adults, and 2 children.

Thanks in advance for any info you can give!! Got to start planning again!!! HUUURRRAAAAYYYY!!!

Okay I tried to post the link for tikimans site but it won't let me. Anyway the site is called tikiman 2001, lots of great info.

We got back from a week at the Poly about 6 weeks ago. The link to our Poly review is below. We really loved it there. The monorail was great and we had no issues w/the buses at all. If I can answer any questions let me know.

As far as the different rates I'd look under resorts on the dis home page as they list the new rate system for 2008. As far as time of the year - we went in October and liked it. I thought it was a little warm this year for October - 90's and very high humidity. We've been in October before and I remember it being mid 80's and hot but not as humid. Anyways- have fun researching. Hope you like the link.

Anyway my questions are: Have you stayed at the Poly before? Yes we just stayed there last month for 4 nights. DH has always wanted to stay there so we finalyy went for it. We were in the Fiji building, right next to the marina on the 2nd floor. Nice water view, nice room. Very close to the main building.

Anything we should know about it? It is a very busy resort. We did a split stay and were at YC first...much quieter compared to Poly. The pool areas fill up very quickly. Capt Cooks is super busy in the morning but not that busy for lunch. Kona is an awesome restaurant and I could have eaten all my meals there and been very happy. On certain nights they have a singer on the second floor...by the chairs and sofas in front of the windows. He plays guitar and sings Hawaiian songs, he was fantastic!

Anyplace we should request to stay when we are there? We really enjoyed our building so I would say Fiji!

We haven't picked a time of the year yet, any ideas on best times? We were there 10/13 to 10/17 and it was fantastic. The resort was super busy but the weather was awesome, the parks were not busy at all (except for Epcot on Sat and Sun).

Does anyone know if there is a time where the rates are lower there? or is it pretty much the same all the time? I think discounted rates are released all year but check on the DIS or allearsnet.com for past discounted dates

I have read you can see Wishes from the beach at the poly, are there any rooms that have a view of that? That would be cool! But it is fun to see them from the beach too

Thanks I for the link! It was awesome! I'm going to start figuring out the details now and if I come up with any ?'s I'll ask. THANKS!

Your review was great!

I just switched my ressie from WL to Poly today. I'm SO excited to stay at the Poly and am interested in other's views on room/bldg choices too. Also, would a 3 1/2 year old enjoy the Spirit of Aloha show?

We've had Magic Kingdom view both times, our kids watch wishes from their bed and my husband and I sit on our balcony in our jammies and watch them!!!! It is sooooo worth the price!

We request Aotearoa every time simply because we really like the monorail going past our room, I know it's probably one of the least favorite of most people.

I have stayed at the Polynesian on 3 different trips, and we have our 4th trip booked for next May :)

Anything we should know about it?

There's a LOT you should know about this excellent resort (It's my all-time favorite resort, although I've loved *every* WDW resort that we've stayed at!).

The rooms are among the largest standard rooms on Disney property. They each have 2 queen beds plus a day-bed that sleeps 1 person. They've been completely refurbished within the last year or so and they have large flat-panel TVs.

My favorite WDW restaurant is located inside the Great Ceremonial House at the Polynesian; The Kona Cafe. I also thoroughly enjoy the other restaurant there which is called 'Ohana.

There is always something going on at the resort, from lei-making to hula lessons to pool games. When you check in you will be given a schedule. There's also a torch-lighting ceremony (short but very cool to see) almost each evening.

Anyplace we should request to stay when we are there?

We've only ever stayed in the Hawaii building which is their club-level building. We always book a lagoon-view room there, although I'd be happy in just about ANY room at this resort!

If I were going to stay in a non-club level room I'd probably request a room in the Samoa building, facing the volcano pool.

We haven't picked a time of the year yet, any ideas on best times?

My favorite time of year to go to WDW is in May. We've also been in the fall (end of October) and we had great weather and very manageable crowds then, too. I've been twice in July; one time the weather was extremely hot and humid, and the second time just this past July the weather was hot but not unbearably so.

Does anyone know if there is a time where the rates are lower there? or is it pretty much the same all the time?

There are different price ranges called "seasons" at WDW; "value season" has the best rates, and holiday time has the highest rates. Then there's "regular" season, too.

I have read you can see Wishes from the beach at the poly, are there any rooms that have a view of that?

Yes you can absolutely see "Wishes" from the beach at the Polynesian. You can see "Wishes" from all of the lagoon view rooms in the Hawaii building, and also from lagoon view rooms in Tahiti and Tuvalu, and probably many more that I'm not aware of.

There will be 4 of us , 2 adults, and 2 children.

You'll have plenty of room for the 4 of you in a Polynesian room :)

Have you stayed at the Poly before?

Yes, and I can't wait to go back!! :)

Anything we should know about it?

It is an AMAZING resort!!!

Anyplace we should request to stay when we are there?

We stayed in the Tahiti building and thought it way too far from the Great Ceremonial House. Hawaii is the best building location IMO.

We haven't picked a time of the year yet, any ideas on best times?

I can't imagine WDW any other time than summer.

Does anyone know if there is a time where the rates are lower there? or is it pretty much the same all the time?

Rates are always pretty high, but I think they are the lowest in summer.

I have read you can see Wishes from the beach at the poly, are there any rooms that have a view of that?

Yes, the rooms that are labeled "MK View". We had an MK view and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)

What does club level mean?

What does club level mean?

It used to be called "concierge level" but now that there's a concierge desk in the lobby of the resort that is there to assist all guests in making restaurant reservations as well as other things, they've changed the name to Club Level.

Depending on which resort you stay at, Club Level means you're either in a separate building or floor location that can only be accessed by those guests who are staying Club Level; it also includes a private lounge that provides a continental breakfast in the morning and light snacks through the day and some hot and cold food items in the evenings plus desserts and cordials in the later evening; with Club Level you also get personal pre-trip planning assistance and that means that you can call or email them and they'll make all of your dining reservations and help with other trip planning needs months in advance before your trip. Club Level costs more than staying non-club level; some people feel it's well worth it while others don't.

We always stay Poly and club level MK view. If you can manage it in your budget it is a fantastic way to go. We enjoy sitting on the balcony and watching the fireworks. ALthough we honestly love being down on the beach even better. The monorail is wonderful and extremely convienent as it's right there. The resturants are great. Everyone is right about checking Deb's site for cheaper dates. We always do June or August since we have kids in school. And Tiki's site is wonderful if and when it's once again accessible. HOpe you have a wonderful time planning! :)

HI there,

We stayed at the Poly for 4 nights in August 2007 and really enjoyed it. The new decor in the rooms is lovely and the rooms are the most generous in size on property (along with Contemporary).

Weather in August very hot (beywen 90 and 100 in the day) and balmy at night (24 hour pool great for cooling off ;) ). We stayed over 2 different weekends, the weeks were spent in DVC accommodation. The monorail is very handy and the buses were ok if a little slow (also call at Contemporary) the major issue we had was getting to the water parks but this was at all hotels we stayed in not just the Poly.

For our second weekend we were upgraded to a MK view room as it was our anniversary. The room was lovely, even bigger then athe normal rooms and we could see Wishes from our balony. The major problem I had with the room was the noise from the ferries on Bay Lake/7 seas lagoon. Their horns were awfully loud and kept me awake some of the time.

The quiet pool at the Poly was never busy and was open 24/7. The volcano pool was smaller than the other and usually mad busy, also water was not as warm in there.

We did also stay at Wilderness Lodge Villas and I much preferred these to Poly as did hubby. We felt that although we were not on the monorail the wildlife and gorgeous interiors more than made up for it.

Hope this helps!

Just came back from Poly stay (11/2-11/10). It was our first time there and I always wanted to stay there for exactly the same reasons as yours. I stayed there as a kid with my family when it first opened, it's on the monorail, and the grounds are lovely! Having two children, DS6 and DD4, that love to swim, I think I would have to say that I would only do the Poly again when it was guaranteed swimming weather. We had a week in which it was lovely to do the parks at 75 degrees, but a bit chilly to swim for more than 30 minutes. I also found the pools to have very chilly water for 'heated' pools. I agree with another post that the quiet pool seemed warmer at times than the volcano pool, but not always...sometimes they were both cold:sad2: In my DH's words: For what they charge, there should be steam coming off the top of the water. Have to say that I agree with him. Then again, I've been to WDW many times in the Nov-March timeframe and have never found a pool that was as 'heated' as I expected it to be.:confused3

If the kids didn't love to swim as much, it wouldn't be such a big deal. I just feel like I paid for a resort that had a fabulous pool and didn't get to use it as much as I would have liked. That, plus the fact that you can't really ignore the pool. It's right there in the middle, which makes it's harder for the kids to accept the fact they couldn't go in it.
