I haven't been to US or IOA in several years but last time I was there I had problems with fitting in some of the rides and was wondering if they have done anything with the rides to make them more comfortable for bigger people. The only modified seating they had last time I was there was for Hulk and Dueling Dragons. Do they have any modified seating for any other rides?

Thanks.

They modified the seats on the end of each "bench" for Forbidden Journey. So that's 2 of the 4 seats on each "ride vehicle" for that ride.

Is that the Harry Potter ride?
What about the Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket?
Are there any other new ones that I should worry about?
I think if I remember right, the revenge of the mummy did not have any modified seats last time and it was a little snug.

Thanks for the info:)

Congratulations on your weight loss:yay: That is a HUGE accomplishment and I wish I had the will power. I have tried Weight Watchers twice! :sad1:

Dimensionally challenged. I like that!

I am a little concerned about it as well. My DH has recently lost 53 pounds but still has a ways to go before he reaches his goal. I know FJ will be the modified seats, but I am not sure about the other rides.

Fingers crossed he can enjoy everything and we have a great time!

congrats on the weight loss.

last row on the Mummy has more room for those that need it.

Thank you! FWIW this was my 4th time through WW. The other 3 times I never even hit goal. 1st time I was 20 lbs away then met future DH. Dating and weight loss isn't an easy combo! 2nd time pre-wedding. 3rd time post honeymoon baby. Then took around 8 years off. Then finally got sick of feeling how I felt.

My leader? She hit goal and quit WW 9 times before finally joining for the last time. 10th time through was the charm for her!

So please don't feel bad that you've tried it twice. If weight loss were easy for everyone, there wouldn't be any need for WW or Jenny Craig or anything else. You are absolutely not alone.

RRR...I'm not sure if there are modified seats. It's a weird one, it sort of wraps around your midsection, and you're kept in because there's a part of the seat that juts up and meets the restraint. If you hold weight in your belly and thighs, it might be difficult. My husband cannot ride it because of that combo.

There are tester seats, and if there's a modification there will be a second seat or, like with Forbidden Journey (the HP ride everyone talks about), there will be another way to tell if you can fit in the modified seats. (if you get the green bar you can ride in non-mod seat, if you get yellow you can ride in modified, if you get red then it's a no-go)

We use the seats as picture opportunities, so that DH can try them out without feeling too obvious.

RRR has 2 test seats near the entrance to the ride. If the seat makes a loud beep/buzzing noise, that means you can ride in any seat (this took me by surprise as I wasn’t expecting it). If I remember correctly, I think the seats in rows 3 and 4 are modified. I hope this helps!

The picture opportunity idea is good. I hate being an overweight person sitting in the seats to see if I can fit because you know that everyone knows what you are doing.:sad2:

That's kind of scary. Having it beep at you. At least it's not beeping real loud that you can't fit. That would be very embarrassing like announcing it to the whole park that you can't fit in the ride seat:scared1:

If it doesn't beep, does that mean you can ride in the modified seats or you can't ride at all?

I agree. When it beeped, I actually asked the attendant if that meant I didn't fit. I don't remember any of the other test seats making noise like that.

I am not sure what it means if the seat doesn't beep. I think I remember seeing lights next to the test seats, so my guess is those indicate whether you can ride in a modified seat or if you can't ride at all. However, I am not certain about that. Hopefully someone else will be able to give you a more definitive answer :)

I can confirm this. Yesterday we went to US and I sat in the last row twice and the attendant never said anything when he was checking the bars. The third time, I rode in the 2nd or 3rd row and he asked me if I could pull it back a little more to get another click I guess so I did and it wasn't a problem. He asked me if I could ride like that for 3 minutes but it wasn't a problem at all.

Update: Yesterday when I tried the test seats, the one for the 3rd row beeped but the one for the 4th row did not. The 4th row seat sits at a deeper angle. So the guy at the test seats said the 3rd row would work better for me. When we got up to the ride, the
3rd row wouldn't work. The girl wasn't trying very hard at all though. I think it could have worked. I was very impressed with the staff. They were very professional and courteous. The guy on the other side motioned for me to get off and then told me to go down to see this other attendant and he would take care of it. So then they put me on the front row which is like the 4th row. It really wouldn't work. The poor guy this time REALLY tried and could not make it work so I got up and another girl came up to me and was very professional and apologized that she could not accommodate me for the ride and offered me and my family a fast pass to any other ride in the park except Despicable Me. So we rode the mummy again. She was very nice. She kept apologizing. It wasn't her fault. I was very impressed with their customer service.
SO HERE'S MY QUESTION: For those of you who didn't fit on the rocket ride, were you able to fit on the hulk and dueling dragons in the modified seats? I used to be able to ride those rides in the modified seats but since I couldn't ride the rocket, I'm wondering....This was my first time ever trying the rocket. I know the bars are made different. Just wondering if anyone has had this experience where they couldn't ride the rocket but were able to ride the hulk and dueling dragons. Just trying to figure out if I should just skip the embarrassment tomorrow.

I hate to say there is no hard and fast answer to that question. The restraint between HRRR and Hulk/DC are just too different. I am Shrek sized but proportionally big all the way around: 6'4" 320lbs. I know on my last trip, I was able to ride everything but it was tight on those rides and HP. The trouble is, on each ride it was a different body part that seemed to be the defining characteristic. On HRRR the problem was primarily the thighs. On HP, it was a combination of broad shoulders and chest. My shoulders were broad enough that I couldn't sit back easily on the bench and one I was seated, I didn't have enough arm movement pull the restraint into place without assistance. On Hulk and DC, it's more torso length combined with chest.

So, I guess the short answer is yes it is worth trying out all the seats. Even Hulk and DC, although made by the same company and similar in many ways, is slightly different in both the regular and modified seats.
