In a couple of years (when I am done with my master's degree), we will finally be a two income family! I will be teaching and restricted to vacations during summers and hoildays.

My question is:

Would it be cheaper to rent points (for a room at a deluxe) for say a week's stay or to rely on discounts (if they last). I am a FL resident and have gotten some really great discounts because of this.

We woulld probably be interested in the week before Christmas, middle of June, and maybe Thanksgiving.

I just need a general idea of cost. Thanks!

The most cost efficient way to rent DVC points is for stays at DVC resorts, especially Sunday to Thursday nights. Deluxe Resorts would probably cost more using rental points.

For example, a studio at BCV around Thanksgiving would be 14 points weeknights, 32 Fri-Sat. A 1 bedroom would be 30/60. A standard room at YC would be 32/58. Most people rent for around $10/point.

It depends on what kind of room you are looking for, and where you want to stay. Most members rent their points for about $10 per point, so a week in a studio, at 132 points, would cost you $1,320. You don't pay any tax on that. OKW would cost you less on a studio, 109 pts X $10= $1090 per week. Sometimes members will rent for less if they have to get rid of their points, but that is somewhat unusual. You have to keep watching. The Florida rate right now for AKL, which is comparable in quality is $279, I think, which costs you $1953 + tax, for a week.

As for Christmas and Thanksgiving, they are prime time at Disney, and are very expensive, assuming you are there on the actual holiday, as teachers usually are. The days before Christmas are cheaper, but beginning on the 24th they are the highest of the year. 181 pts for a studio = $1810 for a week. That's a general answer, Christmas and Easter change each year. Sometimes you can pay cash for a studio or a one bedroom, that is a pretty good deal. Last year I got a one bedroom for $224 per night, but I couldn't get anything even close to that price this year, so it just depends. Renting points is a good way to see if you like DVC, although your points would be yours nearly forever for a $12, 000 investment(150 pts). It's something to think about.:p
