I have been considering a studio rental from Disney for a DVC property. How does that work? Do I get housekeeping because I rented from Disney? Can anyone else tell me the ins and outs of renting a DVC room through Disney?

Booking a Deluxe Studio directly through Disney is exactly the same as booking a normal room through Disney. You will get daily housekeeping and everything from the way you book, cancellation terms, etc are exactly the same.

thanks! So would the room still have the vacuum in the closet, but only they do it for you? What about dishes etc? May sound stupid but do they expect you to have them washed and put away on check out day? I have never stayed DVC so not sure of these kind of things.

No vacuum in the Deluxe Studios. Only in the 1 bedrooms and larger.

The Deluxe Studios have plastic silverware, paper plates, paper bowls etc. No real dishes nor dishwasher, so nothing to clean or put away. Just toss what you use. The 1 bedrooms and larger have real dishes, dishwasher, etc. We usually rinse any dishes, put them in the dishwasher and start it on check out day. I don't know if we have to, but that's what we do.

The Villa Studios we have stayed in did have normal ceramic mugs, and I think small glass glasses. I have read that DVC was trialing replacing the mugs with disposable, but I don't believe that was well received. We just left our used mugs at the sink for replacement on checkout day.

You are correct. The Studios we've been in also had real glasses and ceramic coffee mugs. We never use them so I didn't even think about them.

There's nothing they expect of you when you stay at DVC booked through Disney (commonly called a Cash reservation).
As far as you, the guest is concerned, there is absolutely no difference in staying in a DVC room vs. a nonDVC room. They don't remove or add things from the rooms over what's usually there when they are booked through DVC either. Whatever the rooms have, they have.
Only those booked using points through DVC are different in how they are handled. (less cleaning, etc)
If you book cash, treat it exactly like you would a stay in any other room.
Leaving things as you would, where you would. Unless you just WANT to put things in the sink. It's not required.

There really aren't any ins and outs. It's exactly like a stay in any other resort room at Disney. You'll get full daily housekeeping, and you're not required to do any cleaning or wash dishes.

Just for the record, the only difference with a stay on points is that you'll get trash pickup every day, but full housekeeping is done less often unless you arrange and pay for more frequent services (DVC has a pay-as-you-go housekeeping system). Even on points stays, you're not required to wash dishes or clean anything.

I never wash them. I assume that they take them to a commercial dishwasher so they are properly sanitized.

Our studios had a vacuum.

I put them in the dishwasher daily, but also wondered if they replaced them on checkout.
