questions about posting?

Fairly new to the updated site - do not post often. Noticed when I do my yellow envlope has a black dot in the middle. I also just posted to someone elses site and it has the same thing. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be pressing something to clear when I've read my message from my mailbox? Any help would be appreciated.
