questions about packing film and cameras on plane

I was wondering how you pack your cameras and film when you check through security at the airport?
I understand that something could happen to the pictures when they go through the xray machine.
Does this also apply to video cameras?
How do you pack?

I have always kept my camera and film in my carry-on and have never had a problem with my film.

Whats FILM?? Just kidding! In this digital age you just see it less and less. I travel a lot and they always ask if there is film or a camera w/ film prior to the bag going through Xray. I think they have you carry them as opposed to putting them through the Xray machine.

When I used to use film, I would put it in a ziplock and ask them to hand check it. They can also hand check your camera/video camera. Make sure you have them hand check the film that has been used as well.

Film of 800 speed or less must go through the security line in your carry-on. I have a camera bag with my film, regular camera, camcorder and camcorder tapes in it. Nothing else- I don't do digital. It's never been a problem to just scan the whole bag through. Once I was asked to take the camcorder out and have is scanned separately.
800 speed film or less WILL be damaged by the stronger x-rays for checked luggage.
AA's site says, "Also, be sure to pack your photo ID, medicine, jewelry, film and cameras with film in your carry-on baggage – not your checked baggage."
