My family and I booked a dedicated 2 BR at OKW. MS asked if we wanted to be close to Hospitality House and I said sure since we would like to be close to Olivia's. This will be our first time staying at OKW and do not know what to expect. Is anyone willing to share some info about the buildings near HH? Also, my grandmother is considering joining us. She is fairly steady on her feet and doesn't need a wheelchair to get around in her day to day life. But we're concerned that she will not be able to handle walking in the parks, or walking up the stairs in whatever building we will be in. Do the buildings near HH have elevators? Or should I request a room on the first floor? Thanks for the information. :)

Only three bldgs have elevators, and they are not in the "near hospitality house" booking category. I would request first floor. Remember, that often the resort will have a complimentary manual wheelchair that you can use for the length of your stay, but they sometimes are not in the best repair. While I understand Grandma not feeling like she needs a w/c, if she has trouble walking distances, I certainly recommend it.

Hi,

You can request a first floor room for medical reasons ..otherwise your request is not guaranteed. You may want to request a handicapped unit, as it will have a shower with a chair that folds down from the wall.

We were given the HC grand villa and a studio last October when we hosted a family reunion at OKW ..both units were on the ground floor and we didn't have any problems with flooding in the shower that people have talked about. My dad was unsteady on his feet, but is able to walk with a cane ..but not long distances, and he loved his studio and felt very safe in the bathroom, as the shower also has rails to hold onto.

Note ..if you're renting a studio ..there won't be a tub in a HC room, but ther will be a tub in a 1 or 2 bedroom unit.

The elevator units are close to the Hospitality House, and you can make a request, again for medical reasons ..I don't know if that would guarantee one of the buildings or not.

As far as wheelchairs and getting around the parks ... The bus stops at the parks will have a spot for complimentary wheel chairs to assist with getting family members from the bus to the park ..you then go to the wheel chair/stroller rental area and can rent a wheel chair or ECV (Electric Scooter) for the day. We got my dad an ECV every day and it was great ... many of the attractions allow you to take the ECV right in line, so it really saved his energy and he was able to keep us with us all day and night. If you decide to leave the park and return later in the day or evening, just let the attendant know and they hold your scooter for your return. You can also go to another park with your receipt and get a scooter. When you return the wheel chair or scooter, just as for a complimentary wheel chair to use to get back to the bus stop and they will provide you with one.

Have a great time!

Peggy

I would also say to request a first floor. The steps to the second floor are not bad, as there are several landings. But I think the first floor would be better in your case.

I stayed in room 2424 on my last trip. It was great being near HH. The other advantage is that you have a bus stop right there on Peninsular Rd. and you are also right near the one at HH.

Olivia's is great. Also be sure to have a beverage at the Gurgling Suitcase. Have a magical OKW vacation!

One other thing that might be of a consideration to you is that none of the units in the "near Hospitality House" catagory will have a door to the bathroom through the laundry room. That means that if you have guests staying in the livning room, they must go through the master bedroom to get to the bathroom. Only buildings 30 and above have the extra door.

Thanks for the great information everyone! :thumbsup2 Do the Hospitality House buildings have a third floor?

I know that 24 does not. I don't think any of the Peninsular Rd. buildings have three floors, but i could be wrong.
