Questions about names on reservation/occupancy?

Hi everyone! I am fairly new to DVC, having only bought about 6 months ago at Bay Lake Tower. We are planning on a late summer trip and my in-laws, my sister and brother -in-law with their 3 kids might be joining us as well. My wife has asked me to go ahead and book the trip but to only put my name, her name and our two kids name on the reservations and not to add the other guests on the reservations. She said that DVC wouldn't care, and would not find out that we will have the additional guest in our room anyways. They can just come and stay with us without having their names added. We will be getting dining plan for my family but the in-laws and my sister and family do not want to get the dining plan (but we probably will be dining together), so my wife is saying there is no reason to put them on the reservations.

So is there going to be a problem with me booking the reservations and just putting my family (4 of us) on the reservations and the rest just come and bunk with us? My wife and I have been arguing over this, and I just haven't been able to reason with her. What is a man to do to make his wife happy?

Everyone needs to be listed on the reservation and must have the same dining plan. Your wife is wrong.

And to top it off, anyone not listed on the reservation, wouldn't even have a room key. They wouldn't even be able to get in the door without one of you. And think of this....your kids would have access to EMH while their cousins would not. That would make for some unhappy kids, esp. when MK is within walking distance and directly in their line of sight. My kids would have a fit!

With all those people (I'm counting 11), you'd be booking a GV anyway. Just go ahead and put all the names on the reservation.

Yes, everyone has to be on the reservation. Only registered guests get a Key to the World card.

It looks like there will be 11 people in your party, so you will need a grand villa. That is the only size villa that will accommodate your entire party. Good luck and have a great vacation!

Not listing everyone in your party on the reservation is technically "defrauding an innkeeper" which is against the law.

What size villa are you planning to book? I'm assuming you're in a grand villa as well, and in that case, why not put them on the reservation? There's no reason not to, and a lot of major to minor inconveniences if you don't. It's not like there's a charge for additional adults or anything like that.

Those who are not on the reservation will not have keys to the villa, may have difficulty accessing the pool at BLT, will not have access to EMH, and if you're flying in, they won't be able to board the DME bus and will have to find (and pay) their own way to the resort.

If by chance you're booked into a two-bedroom and she wants to leave them off the reservation so that you don't have to book a grand villa.....leaving aside for the moment that it's a violation of the fire code, the sleeping arrangements would be impossible. There is only bed space for 8, and that's if you put two people on every available sleeping surface, beds and sofabeds. Where do the other 3 people sleep? Disney won't provide additional bedding or rent you a cot.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider putting 8 people in a two-bedroom. Way, way too crowded for my taste.

I agree with all previous posts, the right way to do it is reserve the correct size room and have all guests in the room on the reservation.

If the second family does not want the dining plan, reserve two smaller rooms, one with and one without the dining plan.

Thank you everyone for your honest opinion. That's exactly what my wife wants to do - rent a 2 BR and put everyone in there. There will be 3 kids all under 3 at the time of the trip, so shouldn't a 2BR accommodate everyone? I am not sure what to do..my wife is stubborn, and she doesn't having a room key for everyone an issue, or the EMH, or the bus issue. Sigh!

No, you will still be over the limit..even infants count. The only villas that can hold 11 people are Grand Villas, but I suspect your wife already knows this.

I would post a link, but the computer I'm on won't allow it. Jump over to the DVC point charts and you will see, very clearly, the posted occupancy.

BTW, I can't even imagine 11 people in a 2BR...doesn't sound like a fun vacation for anyone.

And the above poster is correct about the pool. You will all need a room key...no way will all of you be allowed in the pool area. Does your wife want to be the one to explain that to the kids? (We stayed at BLT this past summer, so I know).

Get the Grand Villa or a 1BR & studio! You will love BLT!

OK, I may have counted incorrectly - you have 4 adults and 5 kids going? In that case, you're within the occupancy limits for a two bedroom. I'd still consider it intolerably crowded, but you're legal.

This will very shortly get bumped over to the Occupancy thread, but only one of the "under 3" kids doesn't count towards occupancy.

I missed that, sorry. If it is indeed 11 people in a two bedroom, including 3 kids under 3, then that is in violation of Disney's occupancy limits......and, to be honest, I'd rather not go than stay in a villa that's that overcrowded.

I understand the urge to save points, so I see where your wife is coming from. But if I were inviting guests, I'd also want them to be comfortable. Make sure the guests understand what the accommodations will be like. They may decide to book their own rooms, and that will resolve the problem.

Being new owners you might want to search for the disaster that some family trips can be. You also do not need to use your points for family so I would rethink all future plans of inviting them when you do not have the points to accomidate them following the rules. If Disney does find out how to do you plan for the extras not having a place to sleep by being escorted from the property? If you do not have enough points for a grand villa look at renting more points, booking 3 studios or else some of them booking reservation from CRO.

The DIS does not allow threads/posts advocating or suggesting ways around established and published policies. Everyone MUST be on the reservation, and all guesys MUST be on the Dining Plan for the days needed, you can now split stays with the DDP, but everyone in the room on those days must be on the plan.

Sorry, anything else is legally fraud.
