Questions about Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween event

Hey there- We're taking our first trip home to SSR in October. We were psyched to be able to go during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival - but just realized that Mickey's NSSH event is going on the 20th- 23rd which is when we will be there.

Some questions:

We're two adults- have any couples gone to this event and was it enjoyable?

We plan on buying annual passes- it sounds like this event would require a seperate ticket- is that right?

We have the choice of going on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Anyone have any experience-based opinions on the less crowded day to attend? I'm guessing Thursday is the best bet.

Thanks everyone for the info.

Can't predict whether you'll find the event enjoyable without children along. That depends on how much you like dressing up in costume and so forth. But you might like it, enjoy the shorter lines, and enjoy the special parade. You'll also like the free photograph (ours was surprisingly good), but you'll be unmoved by the trick-or-treat stations for littluns. All in all, the evening is nicely done.

Yes, this does require a separate ticket.

We went on a Thursday in mid-October and the crowds were very manageable. We made a dinner PS at Liberty Tree during the "blackout time" and got out just in time for the headless horseman. Getting this reservation requires an early call, so plan ahead.

This will be our 3rd MNSSHP without kids. My DH loves this event, so going without kids is not really a big deal for us....besides, there are always lots of adults without kids at all Disney events. Definitely not a big deal!

Yes, it requires a seperate ticket. We're going on a Friday this year, so I'm expecting a bigger crowd than the MNSSHP we attended last year, but definitely shorter lines than a regular day in the park.

Go for it...you'll have a blast! Also, as a previous poster hinted, get your reservations for Liberty Tree early. It's "the" dinner to attend during the party!!

I did the even twice this past year. Both were with an adult friend and both times we had a blast. I definately plan on making this a yearly event with the F&W festival.

I went on the Sunday and Tuesday before Halloween. Both times, the cvrowds were very manageable. Yes, you will need to purchase a seperate ticket for the event. I'll also third the suggestion about dinner at Liberty Tree.

As much as I love Christmas, this party was more enjoyable to me than the Christmas party. As the evening progresses, there are less and less people around making it very nice (our sons went with us last year, but we would gladly go without them if mom and dad ever make it down during that time alone).

If you have never tried it - I would highly recommend it. Not everyone dresses up. Some adults do, mostly children though. Either way, there is so much to do and see and the special parade and shows make it really nice.

"Dressing up," by the way, can be very lite. You don't need a full costume (you don't really need any costume). But if you wish, you can simply wear a character shirt or a funny hat. In any case, you want something you can walk around in and still easily get on and off those rides.

Last year there were 6 in our group (2 kids). My wife dressed in full Cruella deVille costume. The rest of us wore black-spotted white t-shirts and dog-ear hats. Everywhere we went people pointed and said, "Look at the puppies!" During the parade, the CM Cruella came over, gave my wife a big "sisters" hug, and chatted with us for a long time.

We have been 3 times (first didn't dress-up and felt out of place) as a couple and love it! You may feel silly thinking about it, but you will have much more fun dressing up! You get more candy at the trick-or-treat stations when you're in costume and it's just more fun to be in the spirit. We even bring our own Pooh and Tigger pumpkins for trick-or-treating even though they provide candy bags. Seeing all the costumes (kids and adults) is a lot of fun. The parade is great and the fireworks are very sepcial - make sure to watch from somewhere in front of the castle.

I would recommend Thursday or Sunday, but the weekend nights will be more crowded.

We went last year for the first time and really enjoyed the event. Our family wore matching shirts from Finding Nemo that had the Bruce, the shark, on the front and said "Seafood is Low Carb". We found paper shark hats at the local party store and told everyone we were "Candy Sharks". Several people told us how cute the costume was. For the most part people just wear matching Halloween t-shirts. Go for it...you'll have a great time.

Question for rocketriter, you suggested to have dinner at Liberty Tree. Can you suggest a dinner time that would be appropriate? We want to make sure we don't miss the parade or any other shows that might go on. This will be the first time for me too.

I'm going from Oct. 22-30. So this will be prime time.

thanks!

Everyone is herded into Tomorrowland at 6 pm and allowed to leave that area by 7.

You dont have to eat at LTT as they have added restaurants (like Tony's), but having a 5:30ish ressie will get you in to dinner, where they will bring you your wristbands if you dont already have them, then by the time you are done, they are releasing the partygoers back into the rest of the park. So, between 5:30 and 6 would be about perfect.

Last year was my Dh and my first MNSSHP (no kids) - We went along with my dad (60 yrs old) - and another couple - and had a BLAST!

Every ride for us was a walk on - That to us was worth it --- The guys went on Splash Moutain three times in a row - no line...

I dressed up in a black cocktail dress and a witches hat --- everyone else was in Red Sox items b/c they had just one the WS.

We went the Friday before Halloween and it was perfect.

We also did LTT for dinner - WE had PS for 5:45 I think - and it worked out great - got in to dinner - got out and they were just letting people into the rest of the park...

Oh and even my diabetic dad got a kick out of trick and treating --- we can all be kids!

We also did F&W the same weekend - This is now our yearly trip - F&W was WAY fun... this year we are doing a passport and drinking and photographing our Around the World Tour.

Have a BLAST!
and Enjoy!

If you're buying an AP and want to go on 20th or the 23rd, be sure to mention that you have APs. You will save about $5 per ticket. We just ordered ours last week. The CM did not take our AP info. He said you have to show your AP and pick up your tickets at the ticket window outside of MK. You can buy 3 discounted tickets per AP.

My wife and I did Mickey's NSSH last October by ourselves. Believe it was a Thursday. We highly recommend the experience. We did not go in costume as we weren't sure what to expect. Proabably will do something minimal next time we do NSSH to get in the spirit.

At one point we just sat for about 45 minutes over behind the carousel. They had a big tent set up with a full size Cinderella's carriage. They alternated character appearances between Cinderella and Aurora and Phillip. We got quite a kick out of watching the variety of "kids" of all ages wait in and do the character greeting. The smaller children who are just at the age where they can't quite decide what is real and what is not were quite precious -- and the costumes were something else to enjoy. I do some amateur digital photography, so I got lots of great pictures. I do wish that we had the grandkids along though. Also, we inadvertently came across the headless horseman appearance. Just lucky we saw it. So go for it. You'll have a great time.

Thanks everyone for the info.

There is no party on Saturdays. I'd go for either Sunday or Thursday.

You can eat at any of the sit down restaurants but can book LTT and Tony's now and then CP, the Castle and the Plaza at 90 days. Those restaurants will take PS up until closing at 6:00p; Tony's and LTT will remain open through the party, till 9:30p.

I think adults enjoy it just as much, if not more than children.

If you buy AP's be sure and use them to get your MNSSHP park ticket. It will save you $12 from the posted "at the gate" price. We are going on Oct 20 and I called make AR for Liberty Tree Tavern today. The CM told me that seating for dinner begins at 5:00pm.

Thanks everyone for the tips and great advice- we're definelty going to be there this year.

Now if we can only think of some cool costumes...

Don't forget about every aspect of "cool" -- we had on shorts and t-shirts and were still sweltering as it was really warm and muggy the night we went last year (late October).
