Questions about member cash discount on room

I think we're getting closer to making the decision to join DVC but in the meantime I have a couple questions...

If I go to make reservations say 10 months out using our DVC points, but also want to add an additional day to our reservation by paying cash... how does that work with the member 25% discount? I know that sometimes the discount is not available, but it may become available at a later time. So in that case do you go ahead and make the cash reservation and hope that a discount becomes available? That way you know you have a room reserved. Or do you make your reservation with points and keep calling back to check on the discounted cash room to add on later?

Also... those that have added on a cash room to a DVC point reservation, do they usually connect the two reservations so you don't have to check out and back in?

Just trying to understand the whole process a little better before deciding on the right DVC contract for us. Thanks!!

If your real intent is to pay cash for the extra day, I would reserve the point nights and ask about cash availability. If it is available (with or without the discount) I would reserve it for cash and wait for the discount to become available. If it's a weekend night, the discount may be easily available - even 10 months before (we've been able to get the discount 11 months many, many times for weekend nights).

If you reserve the night using points, it may even work against you for the discount since that will be one more villa reserved using points.

In some cases no cash nights may be available at all, not until 6-8 months or right at 11 months. We have always gotten the member discount when we've wanted cash nights and have always reserved at rack rate and then gotten the discount by 6 months prior.
