Questions about linking reservations

Hi all! New DVC owner here planning our first trip to our home resort (Copper Creek) in September. Here’s my dilemma: before we bought into DVC (resale-quarantine impulse purchase) we had a package booked and almost paid for which we rescheduled many times due to COVID. We are finally going to Disney for a week. Five nights in a one bedroom which maxed out our points followed by two nights at a different resort using the money we’d already paid. Now I’m seeing the one bedroom showing as available for those last two nights but only thru Disney reservations. I could easily change the cash reservation to the same villa we are using our points for, which would mean we would be booked for a total of seven nights (5 nights booked with points, the last two booked thru Disney reservation center and paid on cash. If I understand linking correctly I would need to have both reservations noted that we’d like to keep the same room. Would I be able to find out before the last day of the first reservation whether I’m going to have to pack up and move?

That is what you want to do. I always check at the front desk the day I arrive to see if we had been slated for the same room, That would be the time they could try and change it if it didn’t happen

Now, I have only done it with two points reservations as both were booked with MS. Cash via Disney is different so there is always a chance you may have to move but they don’t really want to have to do that if they can help it.

There are some differences. Check in time is different for cash and housekeeping is also different.

But, it’s the best you can do!

Would I be able to find out before the last day of the first reservation whether I’m going to have to pack up and move?

Since room assignment is done in advance, you should know at the beginning of the first reservation whether you were going to have to move for your second reservation. I also think the front desk would consider keeping you in the same room as a priority over meeting someone's view or location preference (just my opinion).

you could also 'buy' the cash rooms while wait listing points for those 2 nights and cancelling the cash if it comes through
