During our trip in October we thought about using Fort Wilderness as a "down day" in the middle of the week. We have been to WDW so many times but I'm embarrassed to say we've never set foot at FW. Our plans are to do horseback riding, etc. and try to fit in HDDR and the campfire program. Has anyone else done this and if so, was it relaxing, enjoyable, etc.? Our kids will be 12 and 10. Also, any itinerary suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It would be hard to do HDDR and the campfire on the same evening. I'd go for the campfire - it's one of our favorite things to do, and (relatively) free. First they have a Chip & Dale singalong, then a Disney movie (you can get the schedule from guest services) on a big screen. We take a blanket, get some hot dogs and beer (for the grownups) and lay under the stars and watch the movie. They also have a couple of fires going for roasting marshmellows (sticks & marshmellows for sale there). It's a very relaxing and laid back experience.

Haven't done anything at Fort Wilderness other than HDDR. So can't comment on the other things, but I would have to vote for doing HDDR. It is wonderful - expensive - but wonderful. We all loved it. Hopefully you can manage to get in both the campfire and HDDR, just on different nights. We did HDDR on our AK day since that park closes so early.

The campfire sounds great. We will have to try that. Won't have time on our December trip as I have just about planned all of our time. I guess we will have to do that on the next trip. (Another excuse to go back - YEA!)

I stayed at FW last year. I haven't done HDDR yet but I know if you schedule the early show I think 5:15 you would have time to do the campfire show. Remember to wear insect repellent. You could make a day of FW if planned well
