Questions about flying with a laptop

Is there any reason that you can't put a laptop in a backpack with other stuff as long as you take it out of the bag during the x-ray? Meaning, I wouldn't get in trouble / stopped for trying to carry purse, laptop, and backpack with other stuff in it as long as the laptop fits in the backpack, is that correct?

yes, that is correct. or at least that has been true at every airport we have flown through. it seems like so many airports have unique rules now.

Yes you can. As long as you bring it out at the security check points.

As long as your total number of carry-ons is no more than two, INCLUDING the purse, you're okay.

DH has also been asked to PROOF it's a laptop, by turning it on.... so make sure battery is charged up.

Thanks for the reminder. I also plan to have its cord so if for whatever freaky reason the battery loses its charge despite being charged the night before, I can still prove it. Or do they not let you prove it by plugging it in?

what i did was stuffed my purse in my back pack and carried back pack and laptop. i had to take it out of case and run it through xray in columbus in fl they had me take out of case and they ran through xray and ran cloth over it and put cloth in special machine i've not had to turn it on.

I fly about 80 times a year with my laptop. Usually I have my pilot bag/small suitcase and my laptop case which happens to be a backpack, and I stick my purse inside either my suitcase or my backpack to get through security (I remove the laptop as required, I would say about 1 in 20 trips I have to turn on my laptop) - then after clearing security I usually remove my purse as it's more convenient. I also store both my backpack/laptop case AND purse under the seat in front of me and only put the pilot case in the overhead.
