Hi all, we are planning to go to WDW next Dec. Probably flying out around
13th Dec and returning on 27th. I am starting to get jittery about pricing!

We really want to stay at POP, but I am worried that when the brochures come out that it will be too pricey for us.
So I looked at prices for this year. 14nts at POP plus VA flights is £700 less doing DIY than VH brochure price ( i know, not always accurate).
My concerns are that based on how the weather has been these past couple of years in Dec:
What happens if the flight can't leave LGW? Do you get bumped to a later flight or the next day etc? If on a package does this alter the start and end date of the holiday?
What happens with Disney if the flight is delayed a day or more? Do they move the booking so it will still be 14nts but just a different check in date? (i realise i would have to let them know myself)
Presumably I could claim off ins for loss of hotel room for "x" no of nights lost, but this wouldn't replace the actual time I would lose .

I hope this is all clear !!

Thanks for any help :goodvibes

I think it will depend on the airline/hotel/package etc

However generally - if you flight is cancelled due to weather (and they dont put additional flight on) You will get a space when next available i.e not necessarily the next day if those flights are already booked.

If you land a day late etc you will lose that day - they wont automatically just extent your booking so you are still there for 14 days wether you are on package or not.

If your holiday Insurance includes delay cover then yes you may be able to claim - assuming the resaon for cancellation is one of the areas covered.

We were delayed for a long time on a virgin flight and unlike some other airlines they have to catch-up as they can't roll out another plane. They can cover this quite quicky tho.

If youu are booking independantly and concerned about this make sure you have cover for independant travel as some insurers don't cover this and expect the package deal to cover extra nights hotel cost or other expenses etc.

for this reason we always use M&S who have independant travel option as an add-on. Personally I don't think you can afford to go cheap with insurance these days.

Hi thankyou for the replies :goodvibes
My head is spinning with all the different options I am thinking about!
I checked with VH today and even on a package, no they would not extend the holiday (as I expected!), so really at the moment I am definately considering a DIY - even though when i first started "planning" this holiday i was very wary of DIY!

I think whichever way I book, good insurance is a must! The only trouble I have is that DH has epilepsy. He hasn't had a fit for nearly 20 years so it is all under control, but on previous enqiries with some companies they wouldn't even consider insurance for us!

Thanks again

Claire :)

Hi Disneymadhouse

Was just discussing insurance and epilepsy last night with a workmate. He got a link from an epilepsy support website for insurance for his daughter, her last fit was 6 months ago and insurance was only £20 more expensive. PM if you want me to find out exact details :)
