Questions about cabin categories, locations on Fantasy

We’re wanting a verandah cabin on the Fantasy for just two of us, so we don’t need a family cabin and are thinking cat 5, really 5B. We’d like to be midships on decks 7-9, but it looks like the midships cabins are mostly family cabins, with a few non-family right next to the midships elevators - or am I reading the deck plans (pdf on Disney Cruise Line Blog) wrong? For some reason when I look at the deck plans on DCL website, I can’t get it to show the cabin categories, but looking at the sizes of the cabins it seems the same. If the most-nearly midships 5B are next to the elevators, how noisy are they?

There are a bunch of Category 5 midship rooms on Deck 7. You can find them by starting to book a cruise (on any available Fantasy sailing) and selecting Veranda then midship.

I have not stayed midship in a while, but I have stayed in Cat 5 rooms by the forward elevators on the Dream and Fantasy and have not noticed significant traffic or noise.

I had a room near elevator, the elevator was not noisy, but sometimes people exiting can be as they walk down corridor, but then it doesn’t matter where your room is, if they have to pass it. We have had rooms right at the back of the ship, with noisy people in the corridor at night.
So in short, I wouldn’t worry about noise near elevator, just convenience.

I haven’t had issues with noise from elevator lobbies on any cruise ship. Running teenagers in hallways and crew or guest doors slamming are more noisy.

There are at least 16 cabins that are not right in front if the entrance to the lobby that would be truly midship.

I have also never heard the elevator machinery, either.

You should be okay.

Stateroom 10534, Cat 5A. Can't go wrong. It's our favorite. Couldn't get that one for our upcoming B2B in November (13 nights), but secured 10536 next door instead.

We have sailed in several Cat 5’s on the fantasy. They were by the forward or aft elevators. No noise issues. Just sailed in a 4B - lots of noise. Parents let their kids run from the mid elevators to the aft of the ship. At all hours.

Avoid aft on the Fantasy, because sometimes she has an excessive amount of vibration in the aft that goes beyond what is normal for a ship.

Thanks all for the replies! I just had another thought - if we book a Family verandah cabin for just the two of us, would it be more expensive than the smaller, non-Family verandah cabin for two of us? I'm assuming yes, for the extra space, but if it would be the same then it gives us a little more latitude in choosing our cabin.

Category 4 cabins are more expensive than Category 5 cabins. How much more varies by cruise, but it's usually $300-$800 more for 2 people.

For 2 people, I don't think the extra space is worth the extra cost. There's a few more feet of floor space between the sofa and veranda, and maybe an extra drawer. For 4 people I can definitely see the value, but when my husband and I booked without kids, we decided to use the $500 for excursions, spa treatments and alcohol tastings rather than a larger room.

We just sailed in a 4B family verandah on the fantasy last month with a VGT rate. We normally get a 5B with the VGT rate. I loved the extra space in the family verandah. And the round tub - so much better than the small rectangle tub. It had a whole additional counter with another set of storage cabinets. Then there is all the extra space where the pull down bed is. Just didn’t like the location with all the kids running by.

One nice perk of the family-sized staterooms (both oceanview and verandah) is that the round tub has a rainfall shower (in addition to a regular shower head), that is really pleasant to use.

Thanks again, all, I kinda knew when I was asking that those cabins had to cost more. Wish we could wait for a VGT rate, but we have a placeholder to use, and we’re pushing it to the very end with the cruise we plan to book. But maybe I’ll find out what the price would be after the 10% placeholder discount - might work!

Just check the website for price difference. Looking at prices does not cost anything. The difference in price may not be too much - especially if find a location you really think you will like.
