I've never been to AKL, but I've heard Boma is a good place to eat. I'm wondering if there are windows that look over the savannah area. Is it possible to see animals from the restaurant?

Also curious if there are enough food choices to satisfy children? Trying to figure out a kid-friendly place outside the parks to eat with a 4YO, a 7YO, and a 13YO that would still be a nice sit-down place for the adults.

Thanks in advance! :D

Hi!
IIRC, the windows at Boma face the pool area, so there are no views of the savannahs. However, there are several public savannah viewing areas throughout AKL that you can visit either before or after your meal.

Hi Travelbug! We stayed at AKL in May of this year, and ate at Boma for both breakfast and dinner. This is a wonderful restaurant, and IMHO is the best breakfast buffet in all of WDW. Dinner is great too, and there are kid-friendly choices available. There is an interesting and good selection of African beer and wine available, and I would encourage you to give one a try. As far as the view, it does not border a savannah area, so you cannot see the animals from this restaurant. You can certainly visit one of the viewing areas before or after your dinner. Finally, I would encourage you to make a PS for this restaurant, no matter the time of year you plan to go. Even though we went in early May, Boma always had lots of people mingling and waiting for a table whenever we walked by. Since the entrance to this restaurant is near the doors that lead to the pool area, we traipsed through here many times during our trip.

Thanks, wdwrich and blanq! I appreciate your replies. Sounds like Boma would be a good possibility to keep in our short list of choices. I'm sure the kids would love to see the animals from the viewing areas before or after the meal. We would definitely make a PS, since we'll be down there over the Christmas/NYE holidays.

Thanks again for your help. :D

Our family loves Boma and the experience of visiting AKL. There is a an area outside where you can walk around and see lots of animals. Often, there is a cast member there to tell you things about them. Also, there are many hidden Mickeys -- get the list at the service desk and have fun finding them. The gift shop is fun, too, b/c it has lots of unusual stuff.

Definitely eat at Boma - it's starting to be a "last-night" tradition for our family. Our daughter enjoys the kids buffet area, and we like to pick through the rest of it. Even though I'm somewhat of a picky eater [ mostly "meat & 'taters ] I still enjoy Boma every time we go.

My recommendation - make your p/s and then arrive an hour or two before your time. Wander around the resort, look at the animals in the savannahs, enjoy the beauty of the lobby. There is usually a "story-telling" at the fire pit around dusk (call AKL for the exact time ) that is supposed to be quite enjoyable. We haven't done that yet, but look forward to doing it in the future.

And take your time ! Maybe it is just us, but the experience is soo relaxing and pleasant that dining there takes us at least two hours, minimum. By the time you have experienced the Lodge and then your meal it will seem like the hours vanished in the blink of an eye.

As the movie critics might say - two thumbs way up !

Thanks, tar heel and Scott, for your great info and advice. Boma and AKL sound really inviting from all that you say. Glad to hear it! You've been very helpful. :D

We have been to Boma for lunch and dinner a few times, its always been fantastic.

We have our next trip in November and I am trying to plan a breakfast there.. I have heard a whole bunch of times that the breakfast is very good. I can't wait.

I didn't think Boma served lunch. So, is it a buffet like the other meals or a menu restaurant? What are the lunch prices like as compared to dinner? Is it easier to make a PS at lunch time? Thanks!
