We are thinking about stopping at Big Sur on our way from San Fran to Disneyland. Where is a good place to stay with 3 kids? And what activities are there?

Big Sur takes a while to drive through so it's best to stay on one end or the other.

This is on the north end of Big Sur. Monterrey has a handful of hotels, the aquarium there is very nice. A little north of there is Santa Cruise that has a boardlwak amustment park. Also there are big trees in this area.

Along Big Sur there are a few hotels dotting that way. Nothing great or great priced.

At the South end is Cambria with Some hotels, Morrow Bay with some more, and then if you go over to the 101, lots of options in San Luis Obisbo.

Also near the south end is Hearst Castle. It is near San Simeon and a state park. You will want to make reservations to see this most times of the year.

For the most part inbetween enjoy the views, and pull over occasionally to take pictures.

You probably should not plan on taking the Pacific Coast Highway all the way from San Franciso to SoCal. It is very slow going. It is beautiful, and worth seeing, but you will probably want to do a chunk of your drive inland. Staying on either side of Big Sir (or both) is a good idea. Monterey has my favorite children's park. I went there as a kid and still go back everytime I go (now taking nephews and next time my own kids). It is the Denise the Menace Park. Very cool.
