Questions about best time to go, best place to propose? (!!)

Hi,

Me and my girlfriend visited Disneyland last year and had a great time. Just about a near perfect vacation. We stayed off site and had no complaints. This year we are planning on visiting Disney World and have been looking at staying on site. The resorts available to DVC owners all look terrific and from seeing listings on e-bay and on the rent/trade board here renting from a DVC owner looks like a good idea to me.

I have a couple questions and welcome any answers:

1) Between our jobs the time available to us is either April 21-28 or May 7-14. Which would be a better time to visit?
2) There is a good chance I would be proposing on this trip. We will be moving in together in March and if things are going as well as I hope then I might propose at Disney World.
I'm not mentioning this to try and wring a honeymoon deal out of anyone, I think I know what prices are, but I want to know which of the resorts would be considered most romantic? Something most suitable for this kind of occasion?

Ty for any responses!

I really don't know where you should stay - romantic to one person would be a bummer to another! What does she find romantic? You'll have to start there - give us some hints! Some like extravagant romance - ie the football game proposals with the whole crowd involved. Others like quite subdued - just the two of you..... can really make a difference in you trip and how you do things!
But as far as a place to propose..... oh so many!
Try the beach at the Poly durning the Parade that goes by on the lake (darn - can't remember the name.......) or during the fireworks at the MK)!
If it's a foot ball game kind of proposal - I wonder if there is any way to get mickey involved? You know - at a character meal?
I personally would have swooned at the Poly, though........

heh Forcing me to wring my brain a bit.

Definitely not a 'propose at a football game' kind of girl. I think she'd get real embarassed.

She definitely likes the beach. Gardens, flowers, fancy places that maybe aren't so modern. Intimate would be better. We love the excitement and bustle of the parks but something a bit serene to stay at would fit.

Does that narrow it down any? And yeah, I guess I'm looking for a tip on which place to stay at and maybe a great spot to ask the question.

Ok my dream WDW proposal would be at night in the magic kingdom during Wishes fireworks with castle in background while on board a chartered boat with just the two of you. Then you could surprise her at home with the WISHES Cd and she could listen to the music that was playing in the background as you proposed all year long. The captain could have some hidden wine on board to celebrate and all. Ok, I hope my boyfriend will read this one day and remember.... :lovestruc

The grounds at POR are really very pretty in spring....I believe there may be a couple gazebo type structures...not sure. Or if you like more rustic the grounds at WL are gorgeous. There's a paved footpath that leads from WL to
FW.....very quiet and serene. There's also a second floor terrace at WL upstairs off the lobby which overlooks the grounds and Bay Lake.....would probably be gorgeous at dusk. As a matter of fact I believe some couples actually choose to hold their ceremony on that terrace.

I think the most romantic is WL so VWL.

that say the flower/garden festavial will be happening at Epcot. So I might go with BCV or BWV. If she or you likes flowers.

if you are lucky you might find a standard view at BWV.

but don't count on it. Some people have already had a problem getting reservations for this May - so decide quickly!!!

at VWL there are little places - close to the lobby. where even a shy person would not feel embassed....

at the BCV there are places - but most of these are more open....

you know I might see if the CM at whatever hotel you pick can't help you.

they seem to like to do this type of thing!

what does she like to do?

Just about any of the nicer restaurants on site will work with you to create a special way to propose...many have ordered desserts that included the ring with a little help from a savvy waiter. Of course, that wouldn't be as private because I guarantee anyone seated around you will probably break into applause (and a few tears too!) when they realize what is going on.

What about one of the carriage rides at the resorts?

Now if you really want intimate...there's always champagne, candles, chocolate-dipped strawberries and the jacuzzi tubs located in the one bedroom DVC villas.

A lot of great ideas!

DyngtoDisney, that is one hell of an idea. That sounds amazing!

DonnaL, I did look at Port Orleans and it is really nice. Cost is an issue for us right now so that is a place to stay at down the road. I want us to visit it so so we will have to take a walk through there.

The VWL sounds very appealing. Friends of mine had stayed at Old Key West, recommended it and that got me looking at the DVC properties. Wilderness Lodge tho sounds very nice. I think Beach Club looks all booked for our times.

Calypso, carriage ride could be good to. Am going to have do write all these down and do some scouting when I get there.

Spiceycat, she loves swimming, walking, we both love eating out and I think we'll have no problem doing that there, we play tennis a bit. Likes to go out dancing too.

Dancing - if the BCV is filled for your dates - how does the BWV look?

you can go dancing along the BW or at PI.

if you decide to go with PI, I would stay at SSR.

there was a Cinderalla slipper you could put stuff in (to tie in with the dancing).

As you walk around the lake from BWV past ESPN, there's a pavillion on the left and I've seen weddings take place there. There are wonderful gardenias that bloom in May that surround the area, and I think it's just a very romantic place. It's not "busy" in the mornings and it looks so pretty in the morning light.

Bobbi :flower:

The chartered boat would definately be nice - the Illuminations cruise could be good as well - or even rent your own boat if cost is a factor from one of the resorts - bring your own champagne and find a nice place....... water is always romantic for some reason.

I like the idea of a glass slipper w/ a ring. How about GF-you don't have to stay there but can visit and go to dinner at Narcooses's during fireworks -
I also like Poly

OR
At EPCOT< there is Paris! or even the Victoria Gardens. Do the beatles still play-maybe you can ask them to play a song-"Till there was you" is a great Beatle's song for the occasion

OR

As someone mentioned, try to arrange for a character at a character meal like Mickey or one of her favorites if she has one.
Even if she is not the football stadium type, a few people around wouldn't be that bad.

What ever you decide, the moment will be right, for you and her. :love2:

My vote goes to VWL to stay and to propose watching wishes.

2 choices

Either at Main Street looking at the castle (that show still gives me goosebumps)

Or

We took a private boat ride from VWL on the lake and toured around Poly and GF and ended up watching the fireworks from the boat! That would be very private and romantic if you prefer some privacy.

Good Luck and congratulations!

Be creative!

My husband (then boyfriend) took me on a romantic getaway to Animal Kingdom Lodge, with a "date" every night... Cirque du Soleil, a carriage ride at Fort Wilderness, etc. And then the last morning (so I thought) we packed up our stuff and let Bell Services keep it while we went to a park. Mid-afternoon, we went back to get our things and wait for the shuttle.

I went to the lobby bathroom to change clothes for traveling, and when I came back Charles was on the phone, clearly upset (hint: this whole part was acting on his part). Apparently the airline had changed our flight and had printed it on the itinerary but not verbally told us, so Charles had just discovered it and was on the phone with the airline. We were too late for the new flight time, and it was a busy travel weekend, so there was no way for us to get a flight out that day.

I started to go up to the front desk to see if AKL had a room for that night, but Charles stopped me and said he'd take care of it. He was gone for a few minutes, and then he came back and said AKL was full for the night, but they had given him a few other hotel options, and he had chosen the Contemporary. So, we got a cab over to the Contemporary. The whole way, of course, I'm ranting to the cab driver about how unprofessional the airline was. (Ooops!)

We checked in and went to our room, and when we got there it was a junior suite (not really a suite... a very spacious, nice room) with a long trail of rose petals up onto the bed and seven dozen roses in vases around the room. There was also a gift on the table.

I was so confused, trying to wrap my head around it. Charles got out his mp3 player and speakers to dance, and I asked him as we danced, "You just did this? Just now?" LOL No. He had set it up with the Contemporary and Disney Florist long ago.

On the third song, he let me open the gift, and it was a glass slipper with "Will you marry me?" engraved on it. And then he got down on one knee with the ring. :)

That was 04/11/04, and we were married on the Boardwalk on 11/05/05!

How romantic.....what a beautiful night, what a great way to propose

Not sure on how much money you would like to spend ---

but there is a beautiful boat docked at GF -- I would rent, have a romantic dinner on bay lake, have it late enough to see MK fireworks, and propose there--

I do not remember the name of that boat at this moment--anyone??

My husband proposed to me while we were visiting the MK in 1998. I don't know how much $ it was, but he rented Cinderella's rose garden. When we checked into our room at the BWV, there was a letter inviting us to a special reception that afternoon at the rose garden. When we arrived, there was a cast member there who allowed us to enter, and let other guests know that it was a "private reception". When we walked down the path, they had a beautiful loveseat and table set up with sparkling cider (I guess no alcohol was allowed there), fancy chocolates, roses and a glass slipper. It really was gorgeous and memorable. I am sure that if you talk with someone at Disney, they will be able to help you create your own magical moment.

I believe it is the Grand I

Ours was simple, but effective. :teeth:

We had dinner at the California Grill and enjoyed the fireworks. After we closed the place down, I went to the ladies room on the way out. My husband met me at the elevators and said, "Let's check out the observation deck." It was great with the MK and Epcot lit up and beautiful. He popped the question out there.
