Hi

I want to do the CP next year, I'm just waiting for the interview in my University. If i get in I'm really thinking about staying at Chatham. I have some questions about it.

1. Do Chatham have a GYM? How is it?

2. What about the walls, i have read that u can hang stuff on the walls but just using 3M tape, if I want to hang a flag, how i do it?

3. I'm thinking about a 3 Bedroom apartment, What about the fridge space? There is any TVs in the apartment? How many bathroom are in each apartment?

4. What about a bank account? Do they offer you one?

Thank You :goodvibes

Yes they do, I've never used it.
I used tacks, and tape as well.
I guess if you buy barely any food, you will have enough space. lol. They are spacious, but there were only 3 of us, and it got crowded sometimes.
You have to bring your own t.v
Depends on apt complex. I was told Patterson had a bathroom for every bedroom.. Not sure.

Every apartment complex has a gym. Chatham's gym isn't very big and only provides basic equipment such as a treadmill, elliptical, bike, and a few weights/weight machines. It's good for staying fit. You won't become the next famous body builder there.

The walls must remain bare except for bulletin boards. You will hear about this during your housing meeting after arriving. You cannot hang anything on the walls - just your bulletin board.

There is one full sized fridge in a 3-bedroom Chatham apartment (2 full sized fridges are only in 4-bedroom apartments). The fridge space can get kind of tight depending on when you all do your shopping and how much of your food requires refrigeration. There are 3 bathrooms in a 3-bedroom apartment, 1 (I believe, it's slipped my mind if it's 1 or 2) bathroom in a 2-bedroom apartment. In a 4-bedroom apartment there are 2 and a half bathrooms (a bathroom is shared by two rooms and the half bathroom is in the "hallway" or main part of the apartment).

There are no T.V.s You must provide your own if you want one.

If you do not already have a bank account, you can use Partners down in Orlando. You can use this ATM if you have a pre-existing account or you can visit Partners in Orlando and open an account there. They have a Partners ATM at the clubhouse in Chatham as well as around the parks.

ETA: There are 2 bathrooms in a 2-bedroom Chatham apartment. I'm not quite sure how I forgot that considering how much time I've spent in 2-bedroom apartments there haha :P

what about a GIANT bulletin board? ...and i'm only half joking.

We were allowed one bulletin board per person. (unless the rules have since changed). I never had one, didn't need it. I hate bare walls but you get used to it -- especially when you find you're not spending the majority of your time in that apartment lol. They are incredibly strict about hanging items on the walls so if you decide to break that particular rule, just be careful not to keep the stuff up during inspections. I've seen people fail the entire inspection because of it (followed by a meeting about the apartment rules).

Do they give you enough warning so that you can take everything down? At my school we get about 24 hrs warning before an inspection.

And I don't think it's very nice of them to show off such a nicely decorated room on their website and then say, "Oh yeah by the way, we don't actually allow your rooms to look like this." I wonder if they took a picture of some girls' apartment for the website and then failed them on their room inspection..

They do give you warning. You will see the inspection dates for each apartment building on a board outside of security. It's not hidden and it's a board you will see daily as you must pass it in order to enter the complex. They usually give you about a week's warning...approximately.

And yes, your apartment will never look like those pictures lol. However, while you can't stick things on the walls, you can decorate fairly well if you have the money and time. Floor lamps, pillows, chairs, table decorations, etc. For me, my priority wasn't in decorating the apartment. I spent my money and time more with the parks and exploring what other things Florida has to offer (ex: Universal Studios). My apartment became really a place where I just slept. lol

I guess I'll be going through more 3M poster strips than normal, then. Its not that I like to decorate, per se, I just like displaying my photography. I'll probably end up with 30 more prints by the time I leave Disney, as well. lol

Generally speaking, and as others have mentioned, you are technically only supposed to have one bulliten board. Inspectors told me one per ROOM not one per person however that just goes to show you the variation with inspectors.

One of my inspections teams were really strict. But towards our last inspection we had left our stuff up on the walls and they didn't care at all and they passed us with flying colors. :confused3 Go figure :rotfl:

I personally really think it just depends on the people you have for your inspections.

Also keep in mind that surprise inspections are always a possibility. I never had one nor do I think any of my friends had them, but they can and have happened before. I think they are more common of housing gets tipped off from one of your roommates id people are stashing or doing illegal things in your apartments (ie: drugs or drinking underage or having weapons of any kind in the apartment).

If you don't do that kind of stuff then you probably shouldn't have any surprise inspections. :)

I had forgotten to take down a calendar before one of our inspections...it wasn't pretty haha. Had to argue to avoid a meeting and a complete failure on the apartment. The woman made it all official. I was sitting out in the living room and she came over to me, quietly but stearnly said "you need to come with me" and took me into my room. She pointed to the calendar and with a frown said "What is this?" as she smacked her hand against it - those people were INTENSE!

And it probably is one per room now that I think about it - we had one per person (aside from me) and didn't get in trouble for that so I think that's what made me think it was one per person.

x2 :)

Wow...quite impressive on how informative the replies were. I had a similiar question. thanks to all for the info

You are better off just not putting anything up. We put stuff up, failed the inspection, and let me tell you, it's not cheap to fail an inspection.
They take a "cleaning fee" out of your paycheck and they come "professionally clean" your apartment.

Fail twice, and i believe they double the "cleaning fee"

Needless to say we got white glove awards for our inspections post-failure. We were not about to fail again.

Caitlin, I started LOLing at this...it's not funny, but the way you described it...oh my goodness...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Needless to say, I will be putting up my one bulletin board and that is IT!

How do you hang the bulletin boards?

I stayed in Chatham and I had a bulletin board up... I just used those small thumb tacks. No one seemed to care. If you look at the wall when you get there, there are usually a ton of holes already there so it's not a big deal. Patterson may be a different story because so few people have lived in those rooms...

We had all kinds of stuff hanging up, posters cork boards, man we even had a pet dino hanging up and they never said anything. As long as it doesnt damage the walls its okay. The Inspections are intense for cleaning though so make sure that house is SPOTLESS like cleaner than clean.

This may be a dumb question....but, if your roommate's side of the room is messy/dirty, do you both get in trouble for it?

Also, and this may have been asked before somewhere else...but if, for whatever reason, you don't pass the inspection, what is the consequence?
