Questioning reservations at CSR

MY family has rssrvations at coronado starting April 21. I was looking at available rooms there the other day and noticed that the only rooms left are the 5 thousand dollar ones. I am a little freaked out that the resort may be pretty much booked. We stayed there last year and it seemed really empty.
I am wondering if I should change our reservations or chance it. I looked at POFQ and CBR and they both have the regular rooms available.
Do any of you know if there is something going on around that time at CSR? Or if there was a convention would it effect our DW experience?

This is my first post, I hope I have put this in the right place and thank you so much in advance for any advice!!!

CSR is large and we've been there over Thanksgiving and the last week of May starting with Memorial day weekend when it was pretty full. There were no transportation problems and the pool is so large that it never got crowded.
That said, if you think that you won't be happy, change your reservation to somewhere else. Lord knows I've changed ours many times over the years. You want to enjoy your resort. Are there others that you're considering?

I always laugh when people worry about a convention at CSR impacting their trip. The CR and BW are both convention centers too, but I never hear anyone worrying about them.

That being said, in my experience if there is a big convention going on this is what you will see:

1. Lots of adults jogging in the early am
2. Lots of adults milling around the bar in the evening
3. Conventioneers tend to NOT use the pool areas en masse so little impact there
4. They also rarely go to the parks in the morning so no crowded buses
5. They also tend to have their own food tables or dinners set up in the meeting area so they don't really use the food court.

We were considering POFQ and CB. I like the idea of Caribbean beach but full size beds would not be comfortable for us. I am on the fence about port Orleans. I have heard mixed reviews, but I guess that is true with all of them. I was told it was very likely that CSR was full last time we were there too and just didn't know.
We had such a fabulous time last time, it was our first trip. I am so afraid this trip will not live up to the first. And I know that is a terrible thing to do, trying to compare trips!
Thanks for the comments!!! I am always open to others ideas!! Especially since I am a Disney newbie!!

We've been going to WDW since 1981. Every trip has been wonderful. There have been trips that were better than others but there is no way to tell ahead of time.
You're right that every resort will have both good and bad reviews. I go with my instinct. As I posted, I have changed resorts, sometimes on a whim. The only time I regretted my decision was going to the Poly. It just was not a good fit for us. Others though loved it, so there you go.
If there is a convention, it more than likely will not have a negative impact. We've been to several that have had conventions going on- YC, CR, GF, CSR, and not once have we had bad encounters.

I have found two conventions at CSR during late April:

April 25-28, Nursing 2012 Symposium
April 27-29, USA Cheer Safety Symposium (for trainers and coaches)

It is possible that there are blocks of rooms reserved for these, and the blocks will be released if the rooms don't fill up. It is common at CSR for no standard rooms to be available at one point in time, only to have several rooms open up when the block is released. If you are staying several days, it might just be one or two days that are affected, but it will show no availability if even one date is booked.

I don't know the size of these conventions, but the only large convention I know of is the Grainger Show, going on now. There is a post about someone's experience. Most conventions do not impact guests at all, and as far as I can tell, the Cheer Safety symposium is only for trainers and coaches, not teams. :thumbsup2

I just read the thread about the Grainger show at CSR. While nothing this big has ever impacted us, that would have upset me!
