I'm writing an article for work that is going to a global audience. Wanted to tie it kids being back in school, but wondering if I will offend people outside the U.S.

Do children outside the U.S. have Summer school breaks? Are they returning to school after said breaks in the months of August and September? I know that even in the U.S., there are all-year schools. Just wondering how it is outside the U.S.

Could you just list your country/state and let me know what goes on in your school system?

In Barbados we start a school year in September (this year it's Tuesday the 6th) and our 3 terms are as follows: Sep - mid-Dec, early Jan - around Easter, after Easter - first week of July. Christmas break is usually 3 weeks, and Easter break is almost 3 weeks as well.

You can double check with the UK board, but when I was there, school went from early Sept to mid-July. They have "half-term" breaks of a week and end of term breaks of two weeks. They also have "Bank" holidays, usually the Monday after a holiday, like Easter. I think it is much the same in the rest of Europe...for instance, I know that Italy practically closes down in Aug as everyone goes on holiday. HTH!

This was 15 years ago, but my friend Marty came to the US from Australia as an exchange student. She was telling me at the time that they have break in December/January because that is of course thier summer. I remember because she had over a year straight nonstop of school!

Hey I'm from australia and our school year starts at the end of January and goes until about a week before Christmas.

We have four terms, the first term usually goes from about the 30th of January until about half way thru April when school breaks for two weeks, this usually co-incides with Easter.
the second term goes from the end of april until the end of june, and again the school breaks for two weeks,
the third term goes from about the second week of july until the middle/late september where yet again the school breask for two weeks,
the final/fourth term goes from the second week of oct until the second last week in december, where school breaks for xmas and new year and then most of january, this is usually about 6 weeks.
so the school year might seem like it goes for longer but the students do get breaks in between.
