I'm thinking about joining dvc. My home resort would be animal kingdom. My
Question is how hard is it to get a summer week at Hilton head island or Vero beach? Anyone have any experiences?

Hi--we do not own at HHI and we go every summer. Sometimes we have had to put waitlists in for a night here and there & they have come through for us. We have also gone to Vero during Thanksgiving and Easter. Again, you may have to put in a waitlist in case you need a night or two but with some flexibility, it works out. My sister and my mother are also members they have gone to HHI & Vero in summer for 10 days without a problem.

Thank you. That's my biggest concern. Cause it seems easy to a week at any Disney hotel. But was worried about getting a week outside of it. Thanks for your input cause Those loOk Like places I will go

It may seem easy but depending on the time of year and how far out you usally plan it can be difficult. For example, home resort reservations are 11 months out, all others are 7. Trying for one of the Epcot resorts during F&W? Hope you are on the phone the day your 7 month window opens up. Even then, you may not get one.

So u think if I book right at 7 month window I should be able to get a non holiday summer week?

Post #2, has been lucky thus far but sounds like they have had to wait list so there are no guarantees. For me, we travel often outside of DVC so we elected to purchase a non DVC timeshare and thus far we have had no trouble trading in but we are flexible with our dates. Or, we rent points from friends of ours that own DVC, or even from this board.

Good luck with your decision.

It also depends on what size unit you want, at HHI, two bedrooms are easier to get than a studio.

I don't think you can count on getting HH during the summer high season (week 25-32 which is mid June to mid Aug). As noted, most units are 2 BR so that choice would be easier. You'll be able to get something at WDW at 7 months out but depending on when and other variables, it might generally be SSR or OKW. VB is a little easier, esp for studio's and Inn rooms.

If you're looking at buying retail, don't, there are no options included retail that are of reasonable value and you'll pay almost double over resale. If you want mostly WDW, I'd buy there. If you want HH or VB (or similar like West Palm area) routinely you're likely better off with a different timeshare system, maybe Marriott, for those options and again resale. You may also want to consider non DVC timeshare options for Orlando as well.
