I've been exchanging my Interval timeshare yearly for Disney properties, and this year we have a studio at BWV, is there any way when I check in I can pay to be switched to a 1 bdr?

I know it's probably not possible, but I was wondering if anyone had ever done it and what it would cost.

Thanks.

Call MS and ask if any 1BR units are available for your stay - you do get a 25% discount on the regular room rate (if available). After that you could opt to waitlist for a 1BR on your DVC points.

No, you can't "switch" room types upon arrival.

You can't do this if you aren't a DVC owner, can you? It sounds like the OP owns an II property and trades in - not that s/he is a DVC owner who could call MS. Can others who trade in then call MS?

You could call II once within the 59 day window and ask if there are any larger units available near or on your dates. We did this once when we traded our Marriott into Hawaii into a studio. We were hoping for a 1 bedroom but there was a 2 bedroom available. We did have to pay another exchange fee but NBD considering we got the full unit at Ko Olina.

Actually you can't do this for an exchange even if you are a DVC owner. And DVC will not change your unit on request, even if you pay the difference. DVC is very strict on this, we couldn't even go from a 2 BR to a 1 BR at VB May, 2007. The only way you'd get an upgrade is by the luck of the draw or if there is a maint issue with your unit and nothing else is available. What you can do is keep checking with II and see if a larger units is available. If it is you can "re-trade" to the larger unit. There is no requirement you wait until 59 days out though it's sometimes easier to find units then. There is a small chance you will lose everything in the attempted conversion and you will have to pay a second exchange fee. If you want to try this definitely don't pay the $95 resort service fee ahead of time.

You will have to pay another exchange fee as it is considered a new exchange. Ours had different confirmation numbers.

Thanks, I will give Interval a call, and see what happens.

IF you have something else to look online, that is the best. Remember you can cancel any exchange within 24 hours so if you have another deposit you can "hold" a week and call them when they open and they can release that exchange and return your week then attempt to "re-trade" instead of your studio. Just don't do this with a week you haven't deposited as the initial exchange will deposit the week and you won't get it back other than the exchange credit. Also if you have a bonus week, you might try using that as well and end up with both if the extra fees are within your budget.
