Question: Word processing program for Windows 7 64 bit computer??

Geeky...yes, but tech savvy...no! Please help me!

I jusy bought DD a beautiful laptop, windows 7 installed, but she needs to be able to word process. What software would be compatible for a 64 bit computer?

The Microsoft Office Suite will work fine and OPEN office will also work if you don't want to pay for office and opt for this free software.

Windows 7 64 bit has been running well and even the older 32bit applications are working well. Great stuff this windows 7

The Microsoft Office Student edition might be a good choice for her and there have been some great sales on it recently. I ordered it for my oldest who is in law school. She was having compatibility problems with her older Office software.

The main difference between 32 and 64 bit (x86 is 32bit and x64 is 64 bit) is the amount of memory it can address. The more memory and faster transfers wouldn't be beneficial in word processing so 32-bit would be just fine.

You can install a 32bit program on a 64 bit system, you cant install a 64 bit on a 32 bit system. However, you should and might even be required to install 64 bit drivers on your system.

Open Office is said to work (Free) and MS office should work as well. If you have a .edu email you might do a search and get a coupon for a cheap download of MS office, here is a link Microsoft Office for $60 instead of $150+ at the store.
