Question when comparing DDxDP and OOP

Not sure if this belongs in tipping or not, sorry.

When comparing the DeluxeDP to OOP do you factor tips into it? I know the DP doesn't include tips (unless stated by restaurant) so those have to budgeted separately. When running the numbers for out of pocket do you add the tip or leave it out and just compare subtotals? TIA

While it may seem it would be the same with just the subtotals and no tip figured in to the comparison, it actually does make a big difference.

On the DxDDP, everyone gets app, entree, dessert, and non-alcoholic drink. That can easily add up to at least $50 per person. If you have 4 Disney adults, that's $200.

When calculating OOP, I only "order" what I think we will eat and that usually means an app or two to share (or apps for the whole meal), entree, and then a dessert to share. We prefer water or maybe some coffee with our meals, so our total cost is much less than if on the DxDDP and, therefore, so would the tip.

So, if you really want a good comparison, I think you need to figure in the tip with your calculations. BUT, don't forget to also add on the 6.5% tax to your OOP numbers.

I don't calculate in tips because we would order the same thing whether on the DxDP or paying OOP so there would be no difference. But if you would order differently, then I would think for a fair comparison that you should include it.

sharonabe - Thank you...I completely forgot about tax.

This. When we pay OOP, we don't usually order apps and rarely order dessert so our bill is less which means less tip. We had to bring significantly more money for tips when we did DxDP. I looked at the menus of where we would be eating and added up what app, entree and dessert we'd most likely order to determine how much our bill would approx. be so I would know how much money for tips we'd need.
