I have been out trying to get DD school clothes and I keep running into size 6 and 6X. I have no clue what the difference is. :confused3 I have compared them to each other and they look like they are the same size.

HELP!!! I am totally lost!!! And to try clothes on her is far worse then going to the dentist. :rotfl:

TIA!!!!

I've always wondered this as well. My niece wears a size 6X and I've always wondered what that X is for.

I think the 6X gives a bit more length while the waist size is virtually the same as a 6. I never quite figured out "6X". I think they wanted to give girls a little extra length while still keeping them in the child's clothing sizes (4-6 versus 7-12) which get a bit more mature.

ETA: From what little I googled--I am probably incorrect...saw something that said a 6x is supposed to fit a 7yo???? so maybe it is a transition size or something?

Yep--found a couple of places now--lists 4/5, 6x/7.

It is a larger size 6....probably as described in the post above.

I think I bounced right past 6x  .

I buy DD 6X because she's long-waisted and they have a little more length there. When I put her in a 6, she looks like she's wearing a belly shirt...a definite no-no for this over-protective mom.

I thought it was the opposite way...I thought it was for chubbier waists and the same length....

6x just length only. It was definetely not for chubby girls. My daughter had to use 6x's just for length.

My daughter is now in 8/10's and boy what a shocker from teh style differences.

I gound a few tank tops for her with a padded shelf/bra in it! YIKES! She's only in 3rd grade

I was short and skinny growing up, but with long limbs, and wore a 6X. At the time I was 10 years old and ~ 50 lbs, 4' tall. Where did the metabolism go?

Thanks everyone!!! :wave2:

DD has the round tummy thing going on so I will probably buy the 6X for her to give her a little extra room and length.

I think at one point I wore a 6X, but I can't remember for sure.

Thanks again!!!

It is the difference between what fits my DD and what doesn't! LOL

I think 6X is for the girls on the "bigger" side of 6. Size 6 would be for normal to petite and 6X is for huskier girls.

Like jeans for boy, they have, say, size 8 normal, 8 slim and 8 husky.

I thnk it's just an inbetween size, not about being chubby, because I was super skinny as a child and I remember being a 6X.
Alos they sell 6x regular and 6X slim
ETA Lands End has the measurements for all the sizes, the waist is parctically the same for 6, 6X and 7-it's the height:

Size 6 ~~~ Size 6X~~~ Size 7
height 45 ~~~ 47 ~~~ 49
chest 24 1/2 ~~~ 25 1/2 ~~~ 26
waist 22 ~~~ 22 1/2 ~~~ 22 1/2
hips 25 ~~~ 26 ~~~ 27
torso 42 3/4 ~~~ 44 3/8 ~~~ 46

It is the half size, like 8 1/2, that is for husky girls. The 6X is just a longer size. THey have a 7x for boys but they have 7x slims.

My DD6 (7 in January) is 51" and 51 lbs. She needs 6x's for the height...7's are too big...she is not chubby at all.
