Question to the vegans

I mean this question in all seriousness. I had a very odd dream last night, I won't get into it, but involved me, a chicken, and a vegan. So why is it that vegan's don't eat eggs? I understand not eating any animal product, but the chicken would lay the egg regardless, no? They don't need the rooster to lay the egg, so if the chicken hadn't found her rooster, wouldn't she just be laying eggs? So then what would you do with the eggs? You can't fertilize the egg once it's been laid, so then it would just go to waste.

I realize this is a really weird question, but like I said, I had a dream, and it raised some questions.

well it is an animal product so that is the main reason.

Battery cages, horrific conditions in factory egg farms. the cages are stacked up high the chickens crammed in and debeaked, and forced to lay eggs continuously. they are debeaked because they are crammed in so tight they cannot even spread their wings, so close they could peck other chickens to death, so hence the debeaking. they live in dirty feces filled conditions, where disease can be spread easily so they are pumped full of antibiotics.
the male chicks that do hatch are killed immediately because they are of no use.
they throw them into grinders alive and chop them up. ( you do have fertile eggs, so therefore some hatched will be male)

the chickens never see the light of day.

so do you want to also know why we don't drink milk.........LOL :)

Have no answer for the Vegan thing-raging carnivore:confused3 but the part about "me, a chicken and a Vegan" sounds like the opening line to a joke:rotfl:

While I know that everything you say is true of most chicken farms. Please keep in mind that some of us (me included!!) raise their own chickens for eggs. They live long, healthy lives. My dear Maryann is now over 10 years old and even still lays an egg on occasion. And....I live in the city! There's plenty of folks outside the city as well as in that raise their own chickens or buy only humanely raised meat and eggs.
In other words, being a carnivore does not automatically mean we're ignorant or uncaring of what animals go through. I'm sure you didn't mean to imply that but it kind of came across that way.

Oh, and I just wanted to add: infertile eggs are really just chicken "periods". Seriously, that always cracks me up, but it's really true! Doesn't ever stop me from eating them, just kinda gets to me sometimes....

OH my good ness, no I didn't mean to imply that! I buy humanely raised meat and eggs for my lovely carnivore husband!!!! ( he eats my vegan meals but ) He will never be a vegan nor a vegetarian for that matter, so I buy eggs from a farmer in my town, milk from another farmer with grass fed grazing cows, and i buy the humane meat from that same farmer as well.
I myself was never an egg lover anyway, so not eating eggs has been naturally something for me even when I was not vegan. I just don't like them anyway!

I do have to add though, that even though a lot of carnivores are enlightened to the factory farm horrors,
many are not, and the vast majority of meat dairy and eggs is from factory farms.

I have been a vegan. For me and some other people I know, it was more the case that my body couldn't tolerate eggs, milk, etc. Every few years, it comes back. Right now, I can eat meat and eggs in moderation but  I am so missing milk!

I can understand that, but I guess I should have clarified that I meant more of the free range, farmer chickens that lay eggs. They're gonna do it whether people eat it or not, it's like their period. So taking away the bad conditions, and just not liking the taste of eggs, why would a vegan not eat eggs? It's something that will come out whenever a chicken has a cycle, anyway.

As for my dream, I was a farmer, the chicken was talking, and getting upset at the vegan who was visiting my farm for not eating her eggs. The chicken thought her eggs were just not good enough, and when Chickadee asked the vegan why she didn't eat her eggs, she started to say something, but then a dog came running through and stole the cake from the table, so I guess I never got my answer. Like I said, it was a really really strange dream. I have no clue why I dreamt I was a farmer, and I have no idea why the chicken was talking.

For the vast majority of vegans they choose this lifestyle because of animal rights. the thinking that animals are not ours to eat or wear or take eggs from . They are not our eggs, they are the chickens eggs. they are not ours to take.
some are vegan more for the conservation aspect. ( factory farms contributing to global warming and pollution, I could go on about this but i won't )

SO if chickens could talk I don't know if they would be upset at a human for taking the eggs or NOT taking the eggs :)
