Should teachers and schools attempt to accelerate cognitive development? If so, how? If not, why not?

Well, I certainly think they shouldn't attempt to retard cognitive development.

I was learning more towards your thinking.

Accelerated Cognitive Development is the tendency to reach the final stage of Piaget's theory of cognitive development — formal operations or abstract thinking and logic — considerably earlier than the general population.

With that out the way, I dont think there is a way because development occurs in stages and to move on to another, one must have mastered the first. In fact, there is no magic bullet for brain stimulation and early learning.

See, I just dont know how to word my thoughts, I am dumb like that.

That is exactly what i was going to say. No amount of pushing will help if a child is not developmentally ready.

I've seen the opposite. Because a child seems PDD they are not exposed to age appropriate material therefore they don't have a chance to advance. We do as much harm underestimating as overestimating.
