Question regarding using SW points..

I think we've decided to fly SW out of OKC, even though it's almost a 5 hour trip to get there. ugh. I have enough SW points for 3 of our tickets, so should I buy more points to get the other 3 tickets, or just pay with my credit card? Is there an advantage of paying with points? And, would the price be the same regardless?

It is almost always more expensive to buy points than pay cash for flights. There is no advantage to buying points, if you buy flights instead you at least earn miles on those flights.

Do you have any other points you can transfer in? Hotel or car rental points?

there is a big advantage to using points for travel. If for whatever reason you have to cancel your trip. The points will be credited back to your FF acct. Whereas if you pay cash you will still get a refund of your money but it will be in the form of travel funds that have to be used one year from the date you purchased the ticket.

I would buy the rest of the points. How many do you need. What city do you live in? Have checked out fares with AirTran? You can book AirTran flights on SWA. NO baggage fee's either and you can use SWA points for the purchase if you book on SWA web page

I'm not sure what you mean by hotel or car rental points. And I have never heard of the Vinalla/bluebird thing, but I will most definitely check it out. Thank you!!

I have 54,000 points, but need close to 100,000, so...will need to purchase 46,000. I live in SW Kansas, with the nearest airport being Wichita, at 2 hours away. KC is 4 hours 15 minutes, and Oklahoma is 30ish minutes longer. I haven't checked AirTran, because I thought it was the same as SW, but I'm off to check it now! Thanks!!

My travel dates are January 29- February 4. I think I'm just going to pay for the other 3 tickets with my credit card, because it'll only be 900ish.
