question regarding photopass photographer

I plan on bringing my dslr, & getting lots of photos of my family. Of course there are times i wish i wasn't behind the camera, or at least included in the photo with my family. I had read that if you ask the photopass photographer, they would take a photo with your camera so you could be included in the shot. Is it considered rude to ask the photopass photographer to take a photo of the family with your own camera?

When we went in May several of the photo pass photographers asked me if I wanted them to take our pic. So, no, it's not rude at all.

Funny story. The first one literally reached out to me to grab my camera without asking. I had no idea that's what he was doing so I thought he wanted to shake my hand. I reached out and shook his hand. He looked confused/surprised and then told me he was offering to use my camera for a pic. I felt like an idiot.

It's completely normal. I ask them to use my camera quite often, and hardly ever use the actual Photopass. And quite a few even offer.

I always hand my camera off to the PPP's. There have even been times that we've been at the MK at night on the walkway to TL, with the castle in the background, and they've taken my picture with my camera set up on my tripod!

Once after Dinner at the Poly the photographer hooked my camera up to his lighting setup (downstairs from Ohana) and used my camera to take pics .

I have never had one say no to using my camera.

I agree with all the PP's. We had our DSLR and had all our pics taken with it along with the Photopass card. We had several photographers say they liked my camera better than the ones they were using.

It's great for 2 reasons. First, you get the shot. Second, you get the shot without the camera dangling from your neck!

I always know we're not going to buy Photopass. I get the Photopass folks to shoot with my camera, but I won't even waste their time by getting them to shoot with theirs. In fact, we don't even get the card. None of them ever seem anything other than willing and happy to do it.

When I first joined Disboards, I got into a "discussion" on one of the other forums with a person who vehemently believed that it was rude -- at best -- to do this, and he assured everyone that he had some sort of "insider info" that the Photopass photographers hate shooting with guests' cameras. I thought it was hogwash then and I still do. The fact is that pretty much any cast member will happily take a photo for you. It is just easier for some than for others, depending on what they're doing. Photopass photographers are generally in the areas in which many guests want their photos to be made, so they naturally get asked more often, I believe.

One thing to keep in mind... the PP photographer A) May or May NOT know how to properly make adjustments to a DSLR and B) if they do know, may or may not do so.

I suggest setting your own lighting setup before giving them the camera (if you leave it in auto, disregard). I also suggest trying things out on the group or two before yours to get things right so you're not holding up the line.

I agree with this! I had my prime 35mm lens on most of our trip and the photopass photographers ALWAYS (every SINGLE ONE OF THEM) got confused when they could not zoom the lens!

The shots did turn out fine, but I got to the point where I was telling them beforehand that it was a prime lens and they could not zoom (and some of them still tried!)

I took my DSLR two years ago, and almost always had the PPP's ask if I wanted them to take a photo with my camera - it was so nice to actually be in the pics! In the past, we have not purchased the photopass cd, but with the +, I am considering it. I like that we can get the ride pics and character meal pics...so many things to decide on before a trip!!!
