Question regarding I.E. 7.0 and 8.0

Hello everyone,


Recently the computer was upgraded to Internet Explorer 8.0. That was before I knew I would be needing I.E. 7.0 instead, in order to register for a California State registration service, for a possible job.
Should I download 7.0? Then after I am done, download 8.0 again? Or just try to find a compatible browser instead elsewhere?
I am wondering how much of a headache downloading, then going back to the other browser might be.

So does anyone have any good advice? I really do not want to have to download 7.0 when it would be a downgrade, not the opposite, which is the current browser 8.0

I haven't checked the official site, but sometimes these things are very hard to downgrade once you put them on. I would be afraid of messing things up completely. Is there another computer you could use for that site? Or maybe see if Firefox will work with it. My parents have both Firefox and IE on their computer and use both.

I would say that it seems like they would update it soon to keep up, but then we are talking about Calif. state bureaucracy run site here.

Try using the "Compatability View" feature in IE 8.0 before you start monkeying with installations and rollbacks.

When you bring up the site in question, look at the icons to the right of the address bar (http://www....) in the IE browser.

When a website isn't up to date for 8.0, I've found that the Compatability View button is activated. The button looks like a page that's been torn in half. The mouseover description reads "Compatability View." (It's to the left of the Refresh Page button with the two curved arrows)

When you click on that icon, it will allow the browser to handle the page as if you were running an earlier version. Give it a try. Good luck.

That is good to know! I just upgraded to 8 a few days ago and haven't looked at it too much. I just know that it is very easy to mess up your computer by trying to undo something!

I'm usually what my professors called a "technology follower." I let other people find all the glitches and bugs first so the vendor has a chance to fix them, then I install the later update version.

I made a mistake and installed 8.0 waaaay too early. It was early, and I was on my first cup of coffee. Brain just wasn't working yet.

I was so relieved to notice the compatability button because I was at how many of my favorite sites stopped working properly after the upgrade.

I use Firefox as well, but since our corporate standard is IE, I don't always have a choice. Better for me to have the problem than one of my staff.

I like to kind of follow too. We will wait to see what people think of the new Windows 7 before we buy a new computer. We declined upgrading to 8 earlier, but then my DH decided to go ahead and try. Actually we haven't had any compatablity issues at all, so good to know this in advance.

I wouldn't have IE even on my computer if there weren't certain sites that "require" it.

Download, Mozzilla Firefox, Safari (apple product,will work on non-apple machines) or Google Chrome.

All three of those are FAR superior to IE in area of privacy, security, functionality and every other adjective you can think of..efficiency, etc.

Thank you everyone for your informative replies. I decided to go ahead and use one of Job Links computers. Fortunately, all of their browsers are 7.0.
