Does anyone know how this works? I've tried looking it up but it's not very clear. I have flight credits that expire Dec.31 so its a use them or lose them kind of situation. I found really cheap flights to Vegas out of Detroit so was going to try to use the credits before they expired. Trying to avoid testing and just wanted it to be a quick trip, does the 72 hours start from the time you get through customs until the time you reach customs in Canada (upon return)? I think I'll have enough time but if the flight gets delayed and I'm at the 73 hour mark when I get to customs, what happens? I'm guessing I should probably just do a test when I get to Vegas to be sure?

I have a feeling they will be rather strict on the timing of the 72 hours, especially at the start, and if it were me I'd be trying to get a test done in Vegas. However, you could also wait and get one in Detroit if it seems you aren't going to make the time frame.

With flights across the border it would be easy I think, driving, I'm not sure, I haven't driven across the border on my own, do you get something on the way there? Do they "log it" somehow? I'm sure someone else will know.

Canadian customs can figure out exactly how long you have been out of the country. The US side will log you into their country as they scan each passport and Canadian border guards will have access to those records.

In the past, coming back home they were really flexible with how long you have been gone (ie 2 calendar days not 48 hours) and how much you could bring back duty free. With these new rules I think they will be strict until things become normalized once again.
