Question regarding Early Morning/Extra Magic

We are coming to Disneyland for the first time in August. How does this all work? We are staying at Paradise Pier.

Guests staying at the on-site hotels are eligible for Extra Magic Hour (EMH). EMH happens in both DL and DCA (one park per morning). Disneyland.com has a helpful webpage explaining EMH:

EMH is for DCA and is only open to folks who are staying on site, like yourself, so a great benefit!!!!. Magic morning, which you will also have at Disneyland is open to all who are on site guests, like yourself and to folks who have 3 day or longer park hoppers. Disneyland magic morning will open in one of two fashions: At the gate on opening hour or open early onto a rope drop inside the park onto the castle hub where CMs guard all rope drop gates. but Only tomorrowland and fantasyland will be open during that MM first hour. It will be crowded if rope drop is used. If gate is used, then a trickle of folks work their way in to photo opps at castle or parterre.
