Question regarding cancel my 5 nt dec OKW

Ok newbie DVC member and now that I am thinking about all the hustle and bustle at Disney over Christmas, I am less excited than before to take my toddlers in that maze of ppl......

I have my current vacation booked at OKW for 2015 borrowed points. I would rather book a Jan stay (only about 2 wks later once it's quiet at WDW) will I be penalized to cancel and book the Jan stay?

From my understanding, as long as I cancel prior to 31 days my points will NOT go into holding? Is this correct?

Anyone know when princess marathon crowd will be gone?

Have you looked at the first 2 weeks in December, that's when we go?

After Christmas WDW goes into a different schedule, maybe more maintenance, shorter hours etc.

I think the Princess is in Feb? But the other marathon is Jan 7-11th. After that there should be a lull.

And you can always took a look at availability prior to cancelling to see when you can get a reservation and if that time will work for you.

No, I didnt think about that at all.,,,,I need to look onto the park hours now. I have little ones so we are early to rise as asleep at 8pm so not sure how we will do? Maybe park hours decrease would just force us to rest more?

I know one thing, even paying change fees I will save about $450 in airfare- JetBlue just published jan into feb rates today and I about lost my lunch.

If I'd just waited, I could have saved $750! Eek. I think going earlier in dec would cost me more in airfare now.

I think this jan DVC stay would work well, as long as MS will allow me to reserve without penalty as I think? Anyone know the policy?

You can do it online. That would just depend on your comfort level. If you just have one contract it's really very simple compared to dealing with choosing points from multiple contracts. I suspect if you were booked over Christmas that reservation would have used more points than what you'll need to book in January but if you used current UY points to book that just means you'll have a few to bank. But if you'd rather call it's easy for MS to help you make the switch.

You can make as many changes as you want till 31 days out for booked points. All other point rules never change.

Only rules to remember:

Points can either be banked or borrowed 1 time. Once a point is borrowed or banked 1 time it must be used in it's new use year. Borrowed points can not be banked.

Inside 31 days points will go into holding account and can be used for a new reservation during your current Use Year as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new check-in date.
