I am in the process of working out my choices for my ADRs. We are on the DDP and it will be myself, my 2 daughters (12 and 8), and my dad -- whose birthday is on the 1st day of our arrival! So....I want to go to a place that he would enjoy, thinking maybe CRT (he would love all the princesses fawning over him LOL)...but was wondering if there are any others you would recommend for a fun and memorable Birthday Dinner for my dad (who will be 69 this year if that matters)

For even more princess action and an option for adult beverages should the birthday boy be so inclined, you could consider the Princess dining at Akershus. Granted, it is not in the castle, but it is in a lovely castle setting and has more variety and an all-you-can-eat first course which may override the status/atmosphere of the CRT.

Honestly, we don't even bother with CRT anymore for our group because the food and decor just aren't worth the cost. We actually enjoy Akershus more than we ever did enjoy the CRT.

HDDR would fit this criteria well.

Thanks for your recommendations!
As for Akershus, that is one of the places on my ADR 'wish list'....but is the Princess meeting only at Breakfast, or other times of the day as well? (trying to make sure everyone's happy LOL)
I will look into HDDR too, I think he might like that!!

We did the Princess Breakfast in Norway and that was a huge hit with our nieces, ages 6 and 12....the food was awesome and but the character interaction was fantastic...the Princesses spent alot of time with the girls, not just take a picture and run

In Norway, there are 5 princesses at all the meals - breakfast, lunch & dinner.

I would also suggest that you consider Biergarten. My kids liked it and the parents did too!

Since it's Dad's birthday, what does he like to eat? That is where I would start.

Thanks again everyone for your insight!

Well, my dad eats just about anything - he's not a real picky eater...but I guess he leans more towards 'traditional' food, nothing too exotic. LOL I think many of the restaurants would be fine for him. I think also another day we'll be going to the 50's restaurant (forgot the name at the moment) - but I think he'll like that atmosphere too.

We went to CRT for my Mom's 78th Bday dinner in September and she loved it. I ordered the slipper dessert for her thru the cake line for around $13 and had them put how old she was along with her name. The fairy godmother did her little song and came over and sang especially to my mom (she noticed the dessert plate). She LOVED it! Even without the Princesses at dinner it was a very festive place to celebrate.

50'S Prime time Cafe..we try to get there every visit.

If he likes steak then LeCellier would be a good choice for his birthday. However, if you are wanting entertainment for the kids and his birthday then not so much. 50's prime time is great and they will make a big deal out of his b-day.:confused3

I don't really have any input on the restaurant, but wanted to say to definately get him a birthday button. Have him wear it the entire visit and they may make a big deal at other places during the trip as well. Lots of free cupcakes!!!
