Question re: Uber/Lyft from Windsor Hills Area

Figured this would be the place to ask this, since I got so much great help in planning my November trip on this board.

We've got 4 families all renting houses in roughly the same area of Windsor Hills during an upcoming stay. On one morning, a few of the kids (and I use the term kids loosely - they are all 18 to 21) want to do a Magic Kingdom Tour at 8am on a day where we are all planning to hang out at the house that morning. We are considering having them Uber to the Magic Kingdom, rather than having to drop them off in the morning (they can't take a rental car, as they are under 26 and it costs waaaaay too much to add the 21 year old as a driver).

Questions are this:

1. Being a gated community with a staffed security booth, can Uber/Lyft pick you up directly at the rental home address ? If not, is there a common pick up / drop off area within the neighborhood ?

2. I know that unless you're using a Minnie Van, Uber/Lyft has to pick you up at the TTA. Is that true for dropping off as well, or can they drop off directly at MK ? I know they can always get dropped off at the Contemporary and just walk.

There are no drop-offs at MK besides buses and Minnie Van. Your options are TTC or Contemporary.

Joel can give you more specific local info, but gated communities are common and there are typically two ways to get in -- rider provides a gate code, or the driver gives the party's name (they'll only have the first name on the account) and address. It is very common for Uber/Lyft to pick up from gated communities, and manned guardshacks are very rarely problems.

Very important to a smooth pickup at a community like Windsor Hills is to physically type the correct street address for pickup. Even if the correct address appears when you start, TYPE the address in anyway.

If you don't, the app will use your estimated GPS location, try to assign a street address (which will be wrong most of the time) and that info may not match what the guards have. Also, once you order the ride, if you're moving around the pin will move as well, further confusing matters. Remember that the only info the driver can give the guard is what is provided, and if that is incorrect, it could be a problem.

Lyft is particularly bad with GPS pickup addresses. Not dropoffs, they're fine -- but pinned pickups are a mess with Lyft for some unknown reason.

The Contemporary would be by far the best choice.

Thanks ! I've rented houses at a few different areas along 192 in the last 15 years ... Windsor Hills has one of the most rigorous entrance procedures I've come across (which is a good thing !) Just wanted to make sure Uber would be an option there. And good tip re: typing the address - I try not to rely on the GPS as a general rule ... learned my lesson about that in Vegas.

I don't recall being to that specific location, but there have been a couple of gated communities where I was directed to wait at a designated pick-up area, either outside the gate or just inside it, so check with the management or security.
