I'm not sure if we're allowed to ask questions about selling points -- I'm sure the Moderators will remove this post if I'm stepping out of bounds.

We would like to sell our points and buy more WL points. We've been told by Disney that we have to sell on our own, but don't know where to begin. Can someone advise?

Thank you ---

You can either list with a resale broker like the ones who sponsor this board, or try to sell it on your own through places like Ebay or elsewhere. I think marketing would be difficult on your own, so I would look into a resaler. You do know that you might be taking a loss on the points. What is your purpose? Is it to get a different homre resort for the 11 month booking window? It sounds like you already have VWL points as well, so I am not sure what your purpose would be here. You do have access to your BCV points for VWL, but only at the 7 month window. If you are trying to get all your points at one resort, it might be a feasible idea. That is why we purchased both our contracts at the same resort.

Depends on how many points you have in your contract. You will pay ~ 10% commission with a $1k minimum through a broker. On a larger contract this is reasonable but high on a contract <150 points. I have seen ebay sales go through at reasonable prices and there will be interest in Beach Club. How big is your contract? We actually have VWL points and would prefer BCV. I think the bottom line is that you can probably accomplish what you want with your current contract and the transaction costs might be an unnecessary expense. Are you happy with the total points you have available? If you have too many then I guess it makes sense to rightsize. It may be possible to arrange a trade where both parties pay closing but no commission if you find the right match.

Hi! We are in a situation with an autistic child - it just isn't working out for us since he gets too overwhelmed and wants to only stay 1-2 days anywhere. We are thinking of selling but can't decide whether to do that or try to rent out points for now. Both look to be complicated. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

On a small contract renting the points might be the way to go. This is easiest when you can transfer the points directly rather than dealing with MS making reservations, etc. However, only the current year points can be transferred and only to other DVC members. If you do this for 7-10 years you'll likely get your money back and maybe thngs will be different for you then. If this was a recent purchase you will likely suffer some financial loss on a sale between the premium paid to disney up front combined with the commission on the sale. Best of luck.

If I were to sell my DVC (NOT!!), I first would attempt it on my own, it is such an easy sell, goto the Tug website, I think its either $10.00 or $20.00 a year and allows for 1 free listing. Then contact Timeshare Closing Services in Orlando, they can handle the closing for you. If after a good amount of time, say 6 months, and you don't sell, I would then list with one of the DVC specialists, but its a huge chunk they take, so if your not in a hurry, I would try myself first. We sold one of our Vistana timeshares ourselves and it was painless!

Good Luck!!

Thanks so much for responding to my questions. Believe me..it's really a hard decision, but I just can't predict a few years down the line whether my son will do any better on longer trips. The problem is that there really isn't anything within driving distance by a beach. Only one in NC and Atlantic City in NJ areas. There are a couple in Virginia Beach, but not many choices. We are paying a lot out over a 10 year payoff period and are only in year 3. I hate to give this up, but just not sure which way to go.

We have an autistic son also. The first couple of years are the worst!! Our son is now 5 and doing great! Disney World is like his other home. If you want to keep your DVC just keep working slowly with each trip you go. Hope this helps a bit if you are hoping to work thru this! Feel free to PM me.
